Show ALL Collections for an item

When selecting a movie belonging to a few different collections, the info screen only shows one.

Example (see photo): Silence of the Lambs is in our Collections of Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress, but only the Best Picture collection is shown on the info screen. All Collections should be shown in which an item appears. This is so obvious, I’m not sure to call it a feature request or a current bug.

I’m also seeing this issue.

I recently upgraded my server from version 1.10.1.4602 to version 1.15.4.994. The item page for each movie used to show every collection that a movie was in, as long as that movie wasn’t the only movie in the collection. This was a great way for my users to discover related movies, especially since I hand curate all the collections.

I really think this should be classified as a bug because it’s a regression in the collections functionality.

Currently, if an item is a member of more than one collection, the info/preplay screen only shows the first collection the item was added to.

This seems somewhat arbitrary and isn’t intuitive.

I understand that this is possibly due to potential performance, or UI concerns if an item was a member of many collections.

Keeping this in mind, my suggestion is as follows:

  • For items belonging to a single collection: Maintain the existing behavior. i.e. show the other items belonging to the collection:

  • For items belonging to multiple collections: Instead of showing all the other items belonging to the first collection, show all the collections the item belongs to:

Thus, an item belonging to many collections will take up no more UI space than if an item belonged to a single collection with many items in it.

Likewise, there shouldn’t be any performance issues beyond displaying either: a) all the items in a large collection, or b) all the collections when viewed from the “collections” tab.

This would make viewing and navigating items belonging to multiple collections much easier and much more intuitive.

MOD: moved this into the related existing suggestion

I just made a duplicate request for this.

We have waited 2+ years lol.

I agree:
When I view the synopsis of a film, I would like to see that the 2019 movie “Parasite” is in three Plex collections (Oscar winners,Palme de Or winners, and Criterion Films). The 1967 film “Blow-Up”
is in three Plex collections (Banned Movies, Palme de Or, and Criterion Films).

Seeing this information adds context to the history of the film before viewing it.

Thank you for your consideration

This sounds pretty close to a feature I also suggested, here, in a lengthy if not somewhat convoluted post.

Basically I was hoping for a simple list of a given film or tv show’s collections, so you can see what it’s included as (e.g. decade, director, series, category, awards or other attributes) and browse similar or related content from there. Taking that a step further to list multiple collections with covers and its other entries would be nice as well. Ideally I’d like to have an option to enable or disable either, or both, as media belonging to a larger amount of collections could become tedious to scroll through and counter-productive. Overall, I favor this/your suggestion, as a variation of what I had in mind and would like to see for my own server at some point.

Was directed to this feature request after making a very similar one of my own here.

As someone who takes advantage of additional (while I know not official) Plex tools such a Plex Meta Manager it would be fantastic to be able to display those additional collections on/below movies as suggestions.

BIG upvote here

Upvoted, as I made the same request here.

Plex needs this!
