Collection tags not automatically locked... items start untagging themselves after I inspect them?

Somewhat repeatable weird situation. Not sure if it’s a bug or I’m missing something.

  1. Add X-Men title to my X-Men collection. Movie now shows up in collection as it should.

  2. Go to my X-Men collection, then click on the edit pencil button in the bottom left corner of the newly-added movie in my X-Men collection.

  3. Click on Tags and scroll down, expecting to see “X-Men” in the Collections field and for that field to be locked.

  4. What I find is X-Men is indeed in the Collections field for this movie but it ISN’T locked. That’s not what I was expecting: if I changed it manually, why didn’t it lock itself?

  5. No problemo. I don’t want to make any changes, so I hit Cancel and leave X-Men in the Collections field AND leave that field unlocked (in other words: not making any changes).

BUT SOMETHING DID CHANGE.

After a few seconds, the movie I just inspected in my X-Men collection got removed from the collection.

I track it down in my library and find that the “X-Men” collection tag no longer exists on that movie. It seems that after I went in to inspect it, then hit Cancel, the unlocked collection tag field was reset to default (i.e. empty).

It is expected that the collection tag does not get locked. That is only locked when you manually edit that field from the edit screen. “Add to collection” or the automatic collections that PMS does are not locked. I don’t know if that’s the best thing to do, but it is as intended.

I cannot reproduce your issue of the tag going away. If I edit the movie, even removing the tag, it doesn’t go into affect unless I hit save. Hitting cancel undoes change anything for me.

What OS are you running?

If your item is ‘Unmatched’, for some reason, or something like embedded metadata in an MP4/M4V is ‘UnMatching’ an item - all your edits, including Collection data will go away as Plex tries to rematch.

Also - I’m extremely guilty of this: If you set stuff too early - while Plex is still in ‘Discovery/Indexing’ mode - all our edits are whisked away as if by fairies, or sprites…
