Collections, I just really screwed up…

So I finally decided to clean the literally hundreds of collections that PLEX auto generated and I think I just deleted almost 70 movies….

I went into the section “Movies”, I clicked at the top where it has:

Recommended, Library, Collections, Categories

I clicked on Collections and saw the vast, vast auto created Collections…

So then I clicked on one of the Collections and in the next screen I clicked the three dots to the right of the pencil icon; PLEX asked if I wanted to delete the Collection so I click yes…

I went to the Library section and it looks like I have lost over 70 movies because it looks like PLEX not only deletes the Collection but the movies in the Collection.

I went from 2106 items in my High Definition Library (not the UHD) to 2028!!

I have no idea what movies I actually deleted b/c I was just clicking collection and then delete, rinse, repeat…

I still have a TON of Collections to delete so I can actually create my own Collections that make sense. I take full responsibility for my mistake it just really sucks b/c ALL my rips are 1:1 copies made with MakeMKV.

Can someone please tell me how I can delete the Collection ONLY and NOT the movies? The auto Collection thing has to be one of the stupidest things PLEX has ever done. Most of the Collections auto generated only have 1 movie!. Unbelievable…

Slow your roll. IF you were in the COLLECTION tab and deleted a Collection, you did not delete your films, at least directly.

Refer to this page on HOW TO USE Collections and make sure you choose DISABLED under Edit Library-> Advanced

I have already disabled it.

I don’t know what you mean by in-line. This is the screen I am trying to delete the Collections from:

Okay so, just keep selecting all of the ones you want deleted and select delete as shown. If you read the image above, deleting the Collection itself from the Collection tab, which you’re in, won’t delete the film files, just the Collection and the Collection tags it’s associated with.

If that’s the case then why does my “Library” tab show like 70 fewer items?

I’m not trying to be confrontational at all. I appreciate your help. Does PLEX count Collections in the Library count?

I can confirm that PLEX counts Collections in your Library count.

I just deleted a Collection with 1 movie in it. I went to the Library and looked at the count and it was minus 1 but the movie was still there.

Why would PLEX count Collections in your Library count? Makes no sense to me….

I can confirm that PLEX counts Collections in your Library count.

That’s intentional and by design.

Remember when you made note that you didn’t know what the term “in line” meant. Those settings where I told you to set as disable is where Collections can appear a certain way by how it’s setup when creating or editing your Library under the Advanced tab.

Because there are users who want that option but if you don’t wish to use it or have a use for it, it can be disabled.
