I’m rebuilding my library from scratch (for reasons I won’t bore you with), and Plex is creating a “collection,” if that’s still the word, for every single movie.
I disabled both Collections settings in the movie library before I imported the folder.
There’s no easy way to delete collections, and now I have 3,000 of them I don’t want.
Are they showing in the just the Collections tab or the Library tab as well?
Are your files MP4’s? If so do they have embedded metadata in the Album field
In the collections tab you can select the first collection by clicking the circle on the top left of poster. Scroll down a bit Hold down shift and select one further down. then you can delete that bunch of them at once. They library is paged as it loads so don’t scroll down too fast or ones in the middle that didn’t load won’t be selected when click.
Some are older and fully tagged for iTunes. (Apple’s new TV is so awful I switched to Plex.)
Others are newer and tagged with the bare minimum, typically Name, Sort Name, Genre, Year. I don’t use the Album tag at all.
EDIT: Thanks for the tip on selecting multiple Collections.
One question. When I go to delete them, it asks if I want to “delete these items from your filesystem.” Does it mean delete the collections or the movie files?
Another Edit: THey only show up in the Collections tab, but I have it set that way in Settings.
Ok. It does sound like that is what is happening. When metadata devs are around I’ll confirm if there are other mp4/m4v tags besides album that are used for collection. You can uncheck, Prefer local metadata in that libraries settings but I imagine you do actually want other embedded data used.
It will only delete the collection not the files. It uses the same modal as when selecting multiple files. I know i made a report for that before so it doesn’t use same modal, going to poke that again.
Also just to clarify the settings that are there. the “auto collection size” setting is only for if collection data is gotten online from TheMovieDB. The other one only determines if they are shown in the Library tab or not, if they exist they will always show in Collection tab
