Played fine, but was transcoded (hardware) to x264. It should play natively (and thus be direct streamed) on my AppleTV. So something weird definitely seems to be going on, at least in my setup⊠but the end result is I get that weird Color Space error and stuff doesnât play.
Thanks, yea, it was weird. I have no idea what kind of state my aTV got into, but it was doing other weird stuff, too. Like, the streams to that aTV showed as 10Gbs, and everything was transcoding (even 1080p h264). Since I was upgrading to tvOS 15.6 I went ahead and just completely factory reset it and now it all works as expected. DoVi direct plays fine as does all the other formats Iâve tried. Super weird, but I appreciate your help
Apologies, I read much of the discussion but couldnât quite understand all of it. I also read Plex displays wrong colours with Dolby Vision on AppleTV 4k - #312 by Ridley but it seems to be carefully worded and I donât quite understand either. So hopefully someone could help provide an interpretation for lay people
I have a file like this, which is presumably one of those DolbyVision 5 files with the problem. This file is FHD, so I canât even avoid 4K files as a workaround.
On Plex web player, I get the dreaded âFile is unplayable. Color space is not supportedâ error. Am I correct in thinking that Plex web player will never be able to support such files? At least, unless the licensing issues are unlocked since web browsers wonât provide support for Dolby Vision on their own⊠(I wonder how official streaming services handle this in their web apps, but thatâs another question altogether)
On the native Plex app for Windows, I am able to direct play the file, but the colors are all wrong. I have tried enabling and disabling HDR tone mapping on the server, and I donât see further settings on the client. Do I need a HDR monitor for the colors to display properly, or will this also never work?
Is there anything I can do on my end? For example, is there a Linux script to detect such files and convert them to files that work?
Also, does rolling back to an older Plex server help with the incorrect colors on Windows? I thought it wouldnât, since the file is already being direct playâd.
This issue just started happening on all LG WebOS TVâs with the plex client update on 7/26/2022. All DV files were playing perfectly fine before this update, now they all say âColor Space Not Supportedâ. The Plex media server was not updated, rolling back the media server to the versions in this thread made no difference.
@apocalypse_cow We recently found a bug where the Plex for LG app was detecting DV incorrectly. A fix has been released. Please check that the app is updated to 5.43.2 and see if the issue persist.
The issue on the LG is specific to the LG. Other Plex clients should already be able to play DV5, but with bad coloring. This was a PMS bug at one point but fixed with PMS 1.27.2.5929.
If you are still getting the âColor space is not supportedâ error, please provide details and logs.
If you are getting the âColor space is not supportedâ error, please provide details, and logs. For the Samsung app you need to enable logging to server ( it is in Settings> Advanced) in the app, reproduce then get server logs.
@hysel can you please disable âverboseâ logging save the setting then restart your server and try again. (only âdebugâ logging should be enabled)
Hi @BigWheel
The same issue (color space is not supported) just appeared on my devices. Thought it to be a problem with the LG OLED G7, but it is on mobile and web apps too. Update to 1.28.0.5999-97678ded3 did not work. Uninstall and rollback to 1.24/1.25/1.26 and 1.27.2.5929 did not help either. DV files were watchable a few days ago but are not anymore, same files that have been watched now generate an error. Non-DV Files work fine. Thanks for your help!
@marcelstonz that error is expected with DV P5 if any transcoding is required.
So itâs very likely with Plex Web, because HEVC will usually (except in Safari) require transcoding.
With other devices, letâs look at standard troubleshooting. Make sure quality is set to max/original. Make sure subtitles are disabled. Enable Debug, disable Verbose, reproduce the problem, and share server logs and client logs and media info for the affected files.
Sorry if it has been asked. Is it possible Infuse has this license then ? Because each time I download a release with DV, I cannot watch it with Plex-client but I can with Infuse. (AppleTV4k).
By the way, it seems I can now play some video files I couldnât before, with the last update and probably this fix:
Dolby Vision Profile 5 video playback did not work correctly (fix also requires Plex Media Server update to at least 1.27.2.5929)
But I still have to perform some test to find out how it solved my problems.
