Dolby Vision stopped working on LG OLED65C7D

Dolby Vision stopped working suddenly in the last week or so. I tried with older server versions too, still getting “File is unplayable. Color space is not supported.”.

Will the fix for the newer models also get released for the older models?

The problem is with Dolby Vision profile 5 media, which does not have a HDR10 compatibility layer.

The same thing is happening with B7 models.

5.43.2 does not fix the problem on B7s.

I probably didn’t get you. That doesn’t make much sense to me otherwise.

The media didn’t change, it is the same file. It worked fine up until one or two weeks.

I do not know why Dolby Vision profile 5 stopped working.

Just suggesting you may want to follow the B7 thread, since the problem is affecting more than just B7 models.

The other thread has Plex employee participation, so should have up to date info on progress towards a fix.

Please turn on debug logging on your server. Then enable logging in the app, reproduce the issue, grab the server logs. Also provide the xml info for the video you played.

Ehm, if I enable logging on the client, it logs the the same file (I think) “Plex Media Server.log”
The zipped file contains all the logs files in the log folder.
What do you need specifically?

Right. The client logs to the server. I was just wondering what the difference between that log is compared to the earlier ones you sent. I haven’t looked at your logs yet. Did you not enable the setting in the earlier attempts so you were providing new files?

Ok, I found out that the app can detect if the TV supports DV profile 5 or not. When it doesn’t support it, then we will not play the file as this would playback with wrong colors. Other Plex clients will playback with the wrong colors. We are reviewing this decision to not playback the file.

But the TV supports it and it worked perfectly until the new detection is built in the app. Yes, at least give us a choice to force it, the colors were not wrong.

Edit: other Plex clients doesn’t play anymore also.

I’m not sure whether to reply here or the other thread which seems to be tackling the same issue. I’ll post here for now. My TV is the 4K LG OLED55B7T.

UP UNTIL A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO:
I could play DV content via the Plex LG WebOS client most of the time as long as the file was an mp4. If it was an mkv, then IIRC the colors were wrong and the TV may not have displayed the ‘Dolby Vision’ banner when the playback began. But with mp4 DV files the tv indicated it was playing DV at the start of playback and the colours were perfectly correct! Occasionally I came across a DV mp4 file that would play correctly for 2–3mins before it would fall into an unwatchable stuttering playback state. I’m not sure what caused this, but most DV mp4 files did not have this issue and played perfectly. Oh and DV content played perfectly via Netflix.

IN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS:
Now my DV mp4 files that previously worked perfectly via the Plex LG WebOS client come up with the ‘Playback Error. File is Unplayable. Color space is not supported.’ message and will not play at all. This seems like an error because up until recently they played fine and with correct colours. Oh and DV content is still playing perfectly via Netflix.

Hopefully this info helps with your testing and preparing a fix. I’m very anxious for the issue to be resolved. Much thanks for your attention to it.

i have an lg oled 65g6v, im in same boat the latest plex web os app update has stopped dv files from working, if i plug a firestick in same tv it then works, its 100% the app not server.
my mum has a c9 oled and plex works perfectly on her tv app.
all hdr10 works fine.
just need the fix on lg plex app.
