Here’s the situation
Comcast seems to be throttling my plex server

My plex server is on my local fiber ISP. Great speed and no throttling of anything.

My son is on internship in Savannah this summer and can only get Comcast. Plex is stuttering pretty bad on his Xbox one. The problem is with comcast.

What is the best way to go about fixing this so that he can view my server without the stuttering?

Has he tried connecting through a VPN tunnel to hide the ports and traffic from Comcast? From my experience they don’t throttle VPN traffic as they cannot classify it.

If you use a manual portforward (instead of UPnP) you should use an external port number different from 32400.

@propayne No he has not. I’ll try that if I can’t get another method. Also, I’m not sure how he can do that with the xbox one.

@OttoKerner So. all I need to do is change the port on my server, forward it to the same extermal port on my router. then have him change his port number on his plex client to the same port?

No. The server is always on port 32400 in the internal LAN. But with the portforwarding in your router, you can create a portforwarding from e.g. 52313 external to 32400 internal. Your ISP only “sees” port 52313 which is not known to be associated with Plex.

The client doesn’t have to change anything. It concerns only the router (and a preference on the server).

I found the Internet there sucks in general.
