When port forwarding, especially with Comcast, can I expect delays on the port updates? Also for Plex is it common to then indicate no remote access when you decide to manually override a port yet have full secure access?
I ask because I did just that yet I have full plex access, direct play, even though I show no remote access. Oddly though it disconnects and is not accessible after several minutes
Port forwarding usually happens on your router, it should be open after the firewall rules load which should not take longer than a few seconds depending on your router. If using ubiquity it can take up to a minute.
Plex remote access display thingie can be a bit weird sometimes. You can disable remote access, restart the server and then enable remote access again with your proper port, cant guarantee that it works that way but it did for me and is stable since then (years now).
Comcast locks the settings on the router directly, I have to use their stupid website to port forward. I am guessing it can take several hours for a setting change to communicate through their servers and eventually update my router.
Though what is odd is when I update the default as a port forward it takes immediately and fixes everything but when I select a different port and then manually set it on plex it only holds for a few minutes then drops. if I retry it re-establishes for a few minutes then drops again… very confusing.
Honestly, I am not sure which, at the moment my best guess is it could take several hours for the updates to route through the servers so I am leaving the new port forward I created on Comcast until tomorrow then try again.
I am wondering if the Plex servers are the same way and if I manually port forward a new port those servers need to update also.
If you got a new port it needs to be updated on the plex site too, but that should be near instant, when you press the apply button.
You may ned to reload your client (idk)
Yep, shows the plex default port open and the new port forward rule port still closed. I did that with another tool before you posted your tool and got the same result.
This is why I think it may take several hours for Comcast to propagate the new port forward rule.
Comcast modems have an option on UPNP page that says “delete unused port forwarding”. Something in those lines.
Just disabled it. I had this problem before
Alternatively you can just create a static port forwarding and it will also solve the problem
On Plex, set remote port manually to the external port you chose, apply, stop and start remote service.
The configuration you do on the stupid website is applied right away. I hate that too.
Just tried, it holds for a few moments then disconnects. When I select 32400 I stay connected and when I scan I can see the default port but the manual port I forwarded through Comcrap shows closed.
Ugh I hate them, just let me do my own router settings
