Lag for remote users thru a specific ISP only

Hi guys,

I’m out of ideas and would need your help. A small portion of users on my Plex server are signaling buffering issues when watching content at max quality (1080p). Their internet connection is more than enough, some of them are overkill and should not have this problem. Plex is their only issue. Netflix, Disney, Amazon, everything else works perfectly.

So, after a quick survey, 4 users are having the problem. All 4 are on the same ISP (with the same service within that ISP), which is Helix by Videotron. Others also on Videotron but using their legacy modems/routers have no problem at all.

I also happen to be running on Videotron’s Helix package. Which is a modem/router combo, the same as Comcast’s X1.

This problem has been present since I setup my server, everybody else can watch movies on full quality with zero issues.

But that’s where I ran out of ideas. I’m not going to call Videotron for this, obviously. But what could possibly cause this ? Any ideas ?

Thanks a million.

This is a follow up to a post I made earlier this year, when I thought only one was having the problem: Need help, trying to figure out why it's always buffering for a specific user from his network only

Why not?
If you narrowed it down to them… that’s the next step

Well I did. Got no help at all. They told me to open 32400… lol

They didn’t seem to understand the logic of my findings or they just didn’t care at all.

I found several posts on forums about Comcast seemingly trottling Plex downloads and streams, but no solutions.

It can’t hurt to try a different port. Sophisticated throttling will do deeper packet inspection, or be looking at sustained consumption, etc. But “dumb” throttling might be keying off of port:32400.
