Coming back to Plex DVR from Channels

I’ve switched back to Plex from Channels in anticipation of the switch of EPG provider - hated having to pay a monthly subscription for what should be free tv…

Works well so far but there are some things either missing or I haven’t found :-

Auto skip commercials? I can’t see an option for this so presume not implemented yet.

Can I enable delete for just one specific library? I have the DVR recording into a separate library and want to be able to delete recordings, but don’t want the kids deleting movies or tv shows that are being kept.

Also, I have asked this before, but will try again! I have an IPTV solution and the channel numbers are hard coded from 1-150. Anyone know of a way or even a hack to change the channel numbers for my Plex HDHomerun channels so I could have both within Plex?

Welcome back!

I use commercial skip for all of my recordings. To set at the DVR level, in Plex Web go to Settings -> Live TV &DVR, then click “DVR Settings”. Scroll down to the bottom for “Detect Commercials”. I use the “Detect and Delete Commercials” that has been around for a couple years and it works well for me, but there was a strong request from the user community to have a non-destructive commercial skip that is now available as the “Detect Commercials and Mark for Skip”. Also set Commercial Skip at the recording level. In Plex Web open a recording, then click “Show Advanced” and scroll down to find the “Detect Commercials” option. I haven’t used the new option “Mark Commercials” option, but I think as you are watching it will prompt if you want to skip where a commercial is detected.

As a side note, auto skip intros is now also available.

Allowing deletion for a specific library isn’t yet available, though there is a feature request here that you can vote for if it is important to you.

I can’t speak to the IPTV request - perhaps someone else can chime in.

Thanks for the reply… Ads are detected just fine… just a couple of times was a bit slow to press the skip ads button and then it’s more awkward to get past them! Just need an auto skip ads option!

Gotcha. As I understand it if you use “Detect Commercials and Mark for Skip” it does require you to manually skip, as does the intro skip. The non-destructive mark for skip option is new in the past couple months. I can’t even find that there is a feature request for what you ask, so perhaps it would be worth creating one.

Of course the “Detect and Delete Commercials” option accomplishes an automatic skip, but I’m assuming you want the non-destructiveness of the other approach. I personally haven’t had problems with “Detect and Delete” removing too much, but I know it can vary by show/broadcast. I do use a custom comskip.ini that results in much better removal than the default.

I do delete of a specific libraries by only giving Plex write access to those folders. E.g delete is enabled for all libraries but the user that the plex server runs as doesn’t have write permission on folders I don’t want it to delete from.

I am also returning to Plex after a long time. Where do you find the “Show Advanced” after opening a recording?

Thanks

If you are using the web interface, open the recording options by clicking on the one you want to select from the “DVR Schedule” tab of “Live TV & DVR” under “Recording Priority”. Then “Show Advanced” is at the bottom left of the “Record Options” pop up.

I am not using PLEX to record shows, I am using Channels DVR.
