Plex version 1.10.0.4516 was just released with this feature. I can’t find anything in the webui that about this. Can we get some context?
Settings > server > live tv & dvr > dvr settings > remove commercials
also when selecting a show to record
Click record > show advanced > remove commercials.
All of my dreams, ALL of my dreams, just came true.
Anyone tested this yet? Is it reliable? The problem I’ve always found with commercial detection/deletion is the false-positives.; deleting portions of the show and not just the commercials.
@Mattaton - ive tested it with 1 show so far, and it removed all but .5 of a second of an advert, which is perfect for me,
Gonna give it a real go with her soaps this evening! i wonder if they are using the same kinda stuff as comskip - or have managed to get advert break locations from the tv providers?

I’m a bit of a noob with commercial skipping. Tried it a couple times with comskip and showanalyzer and ended up just leaving the commercials in because it was nuking bits of the shows. That was with WMC as the DVR.
Would TV providers even make that sort of info available? Seems they’d be a little backwards about that seeing as advertising is where most of their money comes from. They probably want to make commercial skipping as hard as possible!
If Plex has this figured out and reliable, that would be amazing! I found that it was enabled by default on all my recordings. I disabled it on my favorite shows and let it ride on some others. We’ll see how it goes!
I wonder if it’s only for future recordings or if you can go back and remove commercials from old recordings/files…

I dunno - but ive always seen on my virgin box “advert” markers when i watch recorded things, so maybe its available to someone somwhere?
Would love to get the details of this new feature. If they’re running default comskip configs behind the scenes, I’ll leave my setup the way it is, but if they are using something different, or even proprietary, would love to test and compare!
Does this work for existing content? I could not find a way to do it.

I too would love to know about this. Have tons of DVR recordings which I’d love for plex to go through and remove / re-claim HD space.
I also have a ton of programs with commercials. I was planning to setup something like Comskip so this should come in very handy.

Plex is already using the donor version. The source code they publish for anyone to compile is the donator version.
Well, I guess my purchase of MCE Buddy a few months back wasn’t really necessary now, since I never wanted transcoding to begin with, only commercial removal. At least I didn’t pony up for the donator version of comskip.

I did not see a way to convert existing content to ad-free. Should this be a feature suggestion or is there a way to manually force it?
