Commercial Skip - plays TV shows 'double time' on Android TV (UK 1080i)

For a good few weeks now, I noticed that when watching Emmerdale (don’t judge LOL), if I skip the commercials, the playback on my Sony Android TV skips the commercials but then starts playing the show at warp factor (like double time/fast). The only way to stop this is to force the TV to not convert the file. This then plays back the file as intended but ends up with horrible artefacts as it’s not processing the 1080i (interlaced) image properly so any movement looks awful!

If I don’t use the skip function, and just fast-forward the show to the proper start of the show, I have no problems at all and the deinterlace seems to work without issue.

I suspect this is a interlace issue, but can’t be too sure!? Anyone else getting this.

Just replying to my own message, as this isn’t just a 1080i problems, I attempted to skip commercials on a 1080p recording and the same problem happened.

In fact I couldn’t even tell Plex (client - Android TV) to play without conversion as I’d just receive an error. I literally had to switch to my Shield TV and watch it without skipping the commercials. Luckily the fast forward worked.

It’s crazy and super annoying! You’d have thought they’d puck up on stuff like this. But there doesn’t seem to be a dedicated way to give/report problems, other than a forum post that you don’t even know if it’s being picked up!?
