When playing back video files with transcoding the videos are played back at double speed.
Without transcoding typically OK.

Couple of other threads with similar issue:

And another thread

Come on Plex, this is basic functionality not working :angry:

it’s crazy. no one answer. i know your feeling.
Downgrade android version to 8.23.1 and it works fine again

Don’t they have any test suites they run new versions through before releasing ???!!!

Yah, I’m in the same boat. If I switch it to Original it’s fine, but the Convert Automatically causes the issue.

The more traction everyone can give in highlighting these sorts of problems, or at least saying ā€œI’ve got this problem tooā€, might get the attention of someone from within the Plex team?

I wish there was a proper way of reporting these sorts of faults so that you know if they’re looking into it or not

i have detailed this issue here! for more than 2 weeks
Android Player Ver. 8.24.0.28408 speed playback at 2x if automatic convert is triggered - Plex Players / Mobile Devices - Plex Forum

really pissed off. with logs and everything

based on my experience everytime audio is converted from aac to opus it trigger this problem.
aac is ok for plex and client, so aac need to stay aac
convert from aac to acc, and is what is going on in 8.23.1 which is the last version that works

Plex Support - any update, do you understand the issue, are you taking a look at all ?

This is basic stuff not working :frowning:

Same issue here. Playback initially starts at normal speed but then plays double speed if I skip intro/ads or fast forward/rewind.

Still not working on latest Android beta

Bump!!
Gonna keep coming back to these threads so they don’t get forgotten, since its still an issue

@sixones could you look at this please?

:eyes:

This is a bit of a tricky one, we don’t do any magic on the client for auto convert its all server side. Does the issue happen if you use a specific quality other than Original? For instance with 360p?

If it happens with specific qualities as well, then it’s likely something on the client when transcoding, if not then its likely something on the server side. I’ve tried to replicate but on all my devices its playing correctly with Auto Convert. If someone that can replicate is able to answer the above question I can dig a bit deeper.

Hi, thanks for your interest @sixones
the issue is detailed on my post of more than a month ago
Android Player Ver. 8.24.0.28408 speed playback at 2x if automatic convert is triggered - Plex Players / Mobile Devices - Plex Forum
with video reporting the issue and logs too after playback

It happen, for me with every h.264 video codec, and aac audio
The last version of apk that works is 8.23.1
the later has always this problem
by my side i see that the fault behaviour is triggered when server transcode aac to opus for client

i can provide you a direct link download of a file that has problem
Here: [mod-edit: pirate server removed]
you can test it inside your library
thetvdb code id if you want match it correctly is 321285
my library is mainly anime episode with h.264 video and aac audio
but not all my client android can reproduce it…or sometime we need to trigger auto convert for some reason

The issue is triggered only with auto convert…if you choose a resolution or option is all ok
I’ve set up a server of test and tested all pms release of last 2 month
result is the same
if i play a mp4(h.264 aac) like that above on a client 8.24.0 and after…i have the problem.

Please have a look
I only ask this.

i remain available for tests

in case PM me directly

It’s occurring on my android clients as well. PMS is running Arch Linux version 1.24.5.5173. As manuel_tonani_gmail_com has mentioned in their thread, the issue seems to resolve itself if you roll back to version 8.23.1 on the android clients. Just to note that, in my case, it’s only when you have ā€˜convert automatically’ enabled/selected. From what I could tell it went away once I unchecked it in settings or manually picked the quality.

Thanks for this, with that file and the steps you’ve mentioned I can replicate the issue. Will look into it.
