Do you know how SoundCloud’s community, or RapGenius’ community can annotate a music track or lyrics with interpretation or comments?
This may be more out there, but imagine a similar thing for movies.
The movie is running, not necessarily in sync with every Plex viewer, but everyone can submit a comment or interpretation to Plex, which will save it on their servers (without the movie itself, just the text and timecode). This would then result in an interesting new view mode for movies on Plex: people could turn this on when they watch this, and similar to subtitles, the comments would appear underneath the movie. Of course this would have to be somehow restricted so trolls couldn’t submit crap. I imagine this to be a PlexPass feature only, as this would create a barrier of serious people.
What do you think of this feature proposition? Could it be useful in some cases?
It’s a good idea to store metadata and play the comments while watching the video. Lots of china streaming sites and apps already have this feature, and it’s funny as hell.
Viki also does it too if I’m not wrong.
Of course it should only be viewable within the server and not outside.
The watch together feature is great but we can’t always sync up schedules to watch with our friends.
This request would be “Comment together” where as we are watching something, we can make text based comments at the time stamp we are making them.
When our friends then watch that show or movie, they can select to see friends comments and those comments will appear at the time stamps they were made.
If they chose to respond, the response would send a notification to the original commenter.
The notification (push or email) would also be selectable and when selected would open plex, go to the timestamp of the response, and play.
This would be a great feature so we can “watch together” but at different times.
As it stands now, most people end up texting back and forth about shows. This feature would allow for more linear engagement and collaboration with our friends though.
