Have you considered adding a private chat/comment module to Plex Media Server (PMS) for shared users? Many of my friends are closing their social media accounts. I’d like to be able to retain my small community of friends w/o fear of censorship, deplatforming or privacy issues.
Someone asked a similar question on Dec 4, 2018, but I believe that they phrased the question wrong. They were wondering how “they” could personally add chat to PMS by themselves and the response was that it wasn’t possible.
The Gab Dissenter browser plugin is interesting and currently allows commenting on plex.tv URLs, but I’m not sure that the Plex URLs remain consistent for all shared users and it also won’t work across on all Plex devices/apps. (If you aren’t familiar with th Gab browser plugin, please review its commenting functionality for any webpage before commenting or claiming that this is a repeat of another feature recommendation.)
NOTE: This question has been closed (as a duplicate), but when I searched for “chat” earlier, the referenced feature request didn’t show up as a result for me. My request for not specifically for a “watch chat”. I was hoping it would be a simply a way for all users on a shared Plex server to post & comment generically… not to annotate a track or for admin to send a server message. I read through the other 3 posts and they don’t resemble the feature that I requested and integration/function-wise are not the same.
The chat represented in the first link appears to be requesting a live (or short-lived) chat where both users are active on the server at the same time. “OSD” means that messaging would be displayed on top of the video you are watching similar to a subtitle. I’m requesting a feature more similar to Facebook, Twitter or Gab commenting versus active in-your-face IRC, Skype, Slack, Twitch or YouTube livestreaming of comments. (Yuck! No votes from me for this idea.)
The first two (2) links only have 1 vote each since 2016. I don’t like either of those proposals as it would get in the way of my enjoyment of Plex. I’d like there to be a private PMS message board that additionally has the ability to add a comment stream to any movie, series, episode, track, etc. (I’ve written something similar for web apps that I’ve developed.) The 3rd link is for a push notification from admin-to-all-users and has 303 votes. Again, it’s not what I’m recommending here.
