Companion Player not working, cannot control with Alexa or cast - webOS 5

Server Version#: 1.23.0.4438
Player Version#: 5.14.1

I am not able to find my LG TV to cast to or control via Alexa for example. Alexa states that no companion players were found in my network.

I’m assuming that this is the root cause, but is this the case?

Referring to documentation here states it should be supported so just want to double-check: https://support.plex.tv/articles/203082707-supported-plex-companion-apps/

The Plex for Smart TV apps do not support Alexa.

Got it, thanks. The documentation I linked was only updated a couple months ago that states smart TVs support companion players for receiving. Also, the Alexa support page states Smart TVs as supported - Getting Started with Alexa Voice Control | Plex Support.

In the link I provided to the other forum post, you stated that the feature was removed as part of the new app but it’s on the todo list. Is that no longer the case and support is cancelled?

Hello!

Well, it did, at least before we were forced to preview version. I’ve used it all the time to pause/continue/stop playing. Playing from the home screen stopped working a while ago, but at least these functions were working. Now they are not.

Best regards,
Davor

Companion support is needed for Alexa to work but it does not mean Alexa will work. There’s still a missing piece.

Correct. The new version (previously called preview) does not yet have Alexa support, the old version did.

Thanks for the response. Is this a feature that will be re-added, and if so is there a projected timeline? Your wording “yet” made me hopeful.
