Compatibility with MyCloud OS 5

I received a notification from WD about their new ‘My Cloud OS 5’ release. Can anyone confirm ongoing compatibility of the latest Plex releases with the new WD update?

The only info from WD

In the FAQ it states “Please note, once you migrate to My Cloud OS 5, you will not be able to use My Cloud OS 3 applications with the My Cloud OS 5 devices”. So unless Plex gives an update then it looks like the answer is no, unless Plex is included in to the OS 5 build?

Plex Media Server will be supported on MyCloud OS 5. We have been working with Western Digital to support OS 5 and provide migration of the Plex Media Server AppData from OS 3 when installing the new OS 5 version of Plex Media Server.

The OS 5 version will be available in the MyCLoud OS5 App Store on the device, and on our Plex.tv website.

Thanks for the info

@chrisallen would I be correct in assuming that PlexMediaServer-1.20.4.3508-6abbd541f-MyCloudPR4100.bin is compatible with the PR4100 running OS 5?

@chrisallen about to upgrade and the wd is stating software would have to be reloaded and settings from scratch, but your statement says it will be migrated, can you confirm? I don’t want to have to redo my entire server at this point. Thanks!

No, you will need a new package compatible with OS5 which we are currently working on making available on our downloads site. My understanding is that WD has a slightly older 1.20.x version in their AppStore.

If you are interested in testing out 1.20.4 for OS5 before the links are available please add _OS5 to the end of the filename in the download URL. (eg; _OS5.bin)

If you do have issues during the update please let me know.

We have worked with WD to detect that the user had Plex previously installed under the older OS3 and we will migrate the old AppData over when installing the new OS5 package.

tl;dr

  1. Update to OS5
  2. Install OS5 version of Plex Media Server
  3. Existing AppData/Library will be migrated
  4. Profit!

This has been driving me crazy - ever since upgrading to OS 5 today I can’t use Plex server at all. The Plex.tv site and Apps just tell me they can’t find the server. I tried deleting the server - and the directions say it will just automatically be found again, but the server is nowhere to be found. Clicking the “configure” button from the WD page gives a network error. It seems completely non-functional under OS 5.

Did you simply delete it from Plex Web? If so this will not actually tell the server to remove itself from your account. It only removes the record of it from your account. Could you please provide Direct message me some screenshots of the network error. if you are up for it I would like to assist via Team Viewer to see if there was an issue in the migration from OS3

So just to confirm, if I upgrade to OS 5, I will NOT lose all of the metadata, watch status etc in my plex database?

Thanks

Wondering this too, so bump.
Is it better to wait for a new release if Plex or will everything migrate with update?

I tried this and it works. Updated to My cloud OS 5 using the link on the old My cloud OS 3 Dashboard.
The link for the download of PMS providid by trakz1 (the latest valid one  ) works great and my old plex server is runnig as always.

I can’t see any app’s on the new my cloud OS 5. Just blank when the App Tap is selected. The loading button just spins and nothing happens. I used the “install an app manually” and it works. After the confirmed install of plex, I still can’t see any apps installed on the my cloud OS 5 PR4100. The PMS is alos not present. Navigating to :32400 shows the plex server fine…

I ended up losing all my metadata and my Plex server no longer even works. I’d avoid it for now.

Unable to ‘upgrade’ to PMS 3508 [no internet error], after installing OS5 and the ‘reinstall’ of 3402.

WD did say, "depending on the amount of your ‘data’ the index rebuilding might take time.
What version of PMS got ‘reinstalled’ after the OS5 upgrade? I got ver 1.20.2.3402 and PMS is advising me of the ver 3508, which was installed before the OS5 upgrade.

So did you try what Miklau.dk did? manually installing 3508? Did that work?
