Restaure old plex server

Server Version#: 1.41.5.9626-70009626
Player Version#: 1.110.0.351-4e48eb83

hi, i needed to reinstall plex on my synology nas after replacing an hdd.
i reinstall plex media server and of course backup the plexmediaserver folder with the appdata.

i tried to set the old appdata in the new plexmediaserver folder but the hen i login i don’t see my server.

my question is, how to restaure my old server on my nas to avoid reindex all?

PMS 1.41.5 is an older version, released last March. Do you know which version of PMS was installed before the rebuild?

Please supply a set of server log files:

  1. Stop Plex Media Server
  2. Using File Station, navigate to the Plex Data Folder
    DSM7: /PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server
  3. Right click on the Logs directory and choose “Compress to Logs.zip.”
  4. Download the zip file and post it to the thread.
(drag it into the message window and wait for it to upload).

unfortunately no, all i have is the current for my package installer center:

i tried intstalled it with a token but was a bad idea, so i uninstall it and reinstall without token and now i wait the good how to before start it.

here the logs: Logs.zip (2,9 Mo) logs come from my old install when plex was usable

Thanks for the log files.

The last log entry is dated July 19, and it was running PMS 1.42.0.9975.

It is possible the permissions for the Plex Data Folder are incorrect after you restored the files. That can easily happen on Synology NAS.

You should also install the current public release, PMS v1.42.2.10156.

Suggest you take the following steps:

  1. Follow FAQ 32: Repairing the PlexMediaServer shared folder. This ensures permissions are correctly set for the PlexMediaServer shared folder.

  2. Do not start Plex Media Server after repairing permissions.
You have 1.41.5 installed. Running it will perform unnecessary database migration tasks. It probably will not hurt anything, but there is no need to risk it.

  3. Download PMS 1.42.2.10156 from plex.tv/downloads and manually install it using Package Center.
    You want the DSM 7, Intel/AMD 64-bit download (https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server-new/1.42.2.10156-f737b826c/synology-dsm7/PlexMediaServer-1.42.2.10156-f737b826c-x86_64_DSM7.spk).

  4. Login to Plex Media Server
From a system on the same network as the NAS, point a browser at http://192.168.0.253:32400/web (use https if needed). You should be able to login and reach server settings. Make sure the server is claimed (Settings → server_name → General).

That should get you up and running. If it does not, report back with info on where things fail.

i just search plex and installed the plex media server from the synology app store, so th eone in the synology app store isn’t good?

i look your link to fix shared folder, the one i use was automatically created when i installed plex media server from synology app store. and he’s here: /volume1/PlexMediaServer

i say this because on your link it’s write : cd /var/packages/PlexMediaServer/shares/PlexMediaServer maybe it’s normal i don’t know so i prefer ask

my synology nas is under dsm è and it’s a ds218+ for info

Unfortunately, Synology is very slow to update the version in their app store.

There is nothing wrong with 1.41.5, other than it is outdated.

Your NAS was running v1.42.0 in July.

From Plex Media Server.log:

It is better to move forward to the current public version, 1.42.2, than move backward to 1.41.5.

Some people have the Plex Data Folder on other volumes, /volume2, /volume3, etc.

/var/packages/PlexMediaServer/shares/PlexMediaServer always points to the right volume. Synology DSM keeps track and adjusts as needed.

By using /var/packages/..., people with the Plex Data Folder on a different volume do not have to edit anything. They can just copy/paste the commands directly from the FAQ.

ok, so i need:

right?

First run FAQ 32 to repair permissions.

Then download and install 1.42.2.

You do not have to uninstall the old version first. You can install 1.42.2 on top of 1.41.5. The Plex installer will remove 1.41.5 before installing 1.42.2.

changing rights on folder and his content should be fast but i don’t receive any email and no info if task is still running or not but cpu of my nas is at 99% since this script

No. It may take several minutes. Synology is not fast about such things.

It takes 15 minutes on my DS918+ to run the process.

Look in the Synology Resource Monitor. You can probably see the process running.

Resource Monitor → Task Manager → Processes

ok so not fast like chmod on linux computer haha

Yeah. Synology has certain “quirks.” chmods, moves, copies, etc. always seem to take longer.

I noticed this in the log files. Look at it after Plex is up and running. It won’t keep Plex from running, but it might affect which clients can access Plex.

There is a typographical error in SettingsNetworkList of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth

Jul 19, 2025 12:01:27.048 [140699491531576] ERROR - Error parsing allowedNetworks entry '': Invalid argument [system:22]

You may have a space in the entries instead of a comma or slash.

Examples:

Incorrect: 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0 ← space between 0 & 255
Correct: 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 ← / instead of space

Incorrect: 192.168.0.0/24, 192.168.1.0/24 ← space after comma
Correct: 192.168.0.0/24,192.168.1.0/24 ← no space after comma

i check this when i’ll reinstall it.

finally got the email :

during install of the new version, should i select with or without totken?

Without token.

ok, i installed the new version without uninstalling the old version and when i start plex and go on http://192.168.0.253:32400/web, i got this:

that didn’t asked me to login yet

That’s OK. Plex is updating the database.

Give it some time, 5 - 10 minutes, then refresh the web page (it will not auto-update).

If you still see the same thing after 10 minutes, stop Plex and post a new set of log files.

ok i’ll retry in a moment then

that depend of library size or not? almost 1h and still same screen.
if yes i’ll wait tomorrow to check again

The larger the database, the longer it will take.

I didn’t think it would take very long, since the database was previously at 1.42.0, so going to 1.42.2 should not have too many updates.

The log files did not have any signs of database corruption, so that is not a worry either.

Question: How large is the com.plexapp.plugins.library.db file? It is in /PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases.

If it is 10s or 100s of GB, then let things run.

If it is 10s or 100s of MB, then I’m surprised it has not finished. You could wait overnight (it won’t hurt), or just give it another hour. If it has not finished, then stop Plex and post a new set of log files.
