Plex Media Server Update for Terramaster TOS 5

Server Version#: 1.27.1.5916
Player Version#:

Hi, I tried to download and install Media Server for Terramaster version 1.27.2.5929-a806c5905, but I couldn’t manually do it because of “incorrect package”.
According to Terramaster this issue is about incompatibility between TOS4 and TOS5 packages, so Plex programmers should correct the .tpk file to fit TOS5…
Is it possible to do?

Thanks

Has anyone resolved this problem with updating the Plex Server on a Terramaster TOS 5.0?

If you attempt to update the Plex Server manually, it fails.

Currently, the only Plex update available for TOS 5.0 is the unofficial one posted on the TerraMaster Forum.

TerraMaster Plex Update

TerraMaster support have made it clear that they expect Plex support to resolve this issue.

From what I understand the only change that Plex needs to do to make a compatible 5.0 version is to use /volume1 instead of /mnt/dev0 for the location.

This should not be that hard for Plex to do to offer the 5.0 compatible version as so many are moving over too it.

If that is all that is needed and if the Plex Support team will not do it and the TerraMaster Support team will not do it, is there a way that I can do it myself as a customer with a TPK package manager?

If this is the only difference, can I create a workaround by logging into the CLI of my TOS 5.0 system and make a symbolic link that makes /mnt/dev0 point to /Volume1?

Well … At least now I know that the symbolic link idea doesn’t work.

Plex Update with Sym Link

check this post by Outkastm on Terramaster forum:

The Brand New TOS 5 is Released! - Page 16 - TerraMaster Official Forum (terra-master.com)

the path was actually /md0/mnt and not /mnt/dev0. but I see you have also asked about how he is changing the TPK files manually and I would love to know too.

Thank you for pointing me to this TerraMaster forum post. It appears that Outkastm has been converting the Plex Server .tpk files to support TOS 5.0 since June.

It appears that no one, outside of Outkastm knows how to build a Plex Server update package for TOS 5.0. Therefore, until Plex Support decides to provide the correct Plex Server update package for TOS 5.0, we will have to continue to depend on Outkastm to provide his unofficial version or continue to operate on an outdated Plex Server.

If what Outkastm says is true it should be very simple for Plex to offer supported file for both 4.x and 5.x of TOS.

I know his files work so I am unsure why it is taking Plex so long to do their own supported versions.

With reluctance, I used Outkastm Plex Server update package and as you have stated, it does appear to work with just a few cosmetic issues.

Even though my Plex Server is now reporting the current version, the Plex Server (version, release date, and size) information does not change when viewed in the TerraMaster web console.

Plex TOS 5 Update

I have also noticed that.
It has not been an issue with plex functionality though and the newer plex features are there and working.

I think Outkastm said that the install location is only thing he edits so the rest of the install is all the normal plex update.

The feedback that I’ve seen indicates that there is a little more than just an installation location change.

Even Outkastm says there is more than just some path changes.

I’m not sure that I understand why this is normal.

Actually it happened with TOS 4 too…
Terramaster did not provide any update, so I used to download updates directly from plex website and the version number on TOS system did not change.

Ok… I was not aware that it was always that way. What is you experience with Plex on TOS 5? Is there any chance that Plex will start providing Plex Server updates that works on TOS 5 or will we have to continue to depend on TerraMaster for TOS 5 Plex Server updates?

I don’t know, nobody from Plex answers this question, I hope they will provide official updates.

About my experience on TOS 5… Plex seems to be slower than TOS 4 version, I hope they will fix this. What about you?
