Compilations in music collections

Hello,

I need your help. I would like to know wether it is possible, and how, to parametrize a set of albums which appear today in my music collection as independent albums from each other, but indeed form a compilation (same album name). The collection was created in iTunes and moved to Plex. iTunes proposes an easy option to do so (cell to be checked, after selecting the tracks as a set - the future compilation, provided the album name is the same for all selected tracks). I could not find such an option so far, and I would be very thankful for any idea how to solve this issue and have a better looking collection.

Thank you and regards.

Thank you Otto for your answer, but I did not find two fields “Artist” and “Album artist”, only one of them. How can I select all the concerned albums and set the same field name for all, please ?

I don’t know what you are using to edit your files’s metadata.

Plex server.

You can’t use Plex to change your media file’s embedded metadata.
None of the changes you make are written back to your media files. They are only stored in the internal Plex database.

You need a separate software to edit your music’s internal meta tags.

Interesting. Which well-designed and functional software would you recommend for MacOS or Synology (for a reasonable price as it would be a one shot use)? Thanks.

I am not a Mac user, but this one is supposed to run on Mac, Windows and Linux and is free https://kid3.sourceforge.io/
