Hey guys,
I recently installed a new update for PMS(version 1.1.2.2680-09e98fb) and had issues with accessing the server settings, kept getting “server settings are unavailable” and after trying to use the installer to ‘repair’ it and that not working either I decided to just completely uninstall plex (using add/remove programs and deleting the plex, inc folder in rededit) then reinstalled plex.
Now the program is running, as far as I can tell there’s no firewall issue, but I can’t access plex via 127.0.0.1:32400/web(or localhost…)
If I sign into plex.tv and launch the webapp, I can see the servers shared with me but not my own.
I’d love to provide logs but I can’t seem to find any
At a complete loss on where to go from here, any advice is appreciated!
I posted this in the plex pass forums but no replies yet so reposting in public, hope it’s not a problem
Most crucial: Where does your server run on?

The server is on a computer in the sitting room (same network) running windows 7, if I open up task manager I can see plex media server.exe *32 running
as far as I can tell there’s no firewall issue,
How can you tell?
If I open up windows firewall I can see plex media server has the green light (it has also worked perfectly for years)
Additionally the port forwarding is fine ( I double checked) and the pcs ip is still 192.168.0.99)
I’d love to provide logs but I can’t seem to find any

As I said in the original post, I can’t get there , opening up 127.0.0.1:32400, localhost:32400/web or 192.168.0.99:32400/web doesn’t load anything, however, if I go to mypublicip:32400/web the plex web app will open, and in the drop down server list I can see the few servers others have shared with me, but my own server is not showing and previously I was getting “server settings are not available” whenever I tried to go there which prompted me to try a uninstall/reinstall.
I am tempted to completely reinstall windows but setting up all other applications will be a time sore I’d like to try avoid.

Try this first: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/204281528-Why-am-I-locked-out-of-Server-Settings-and-how-do-I-get-in-
And use a different web browser. Preferably Chrome or Firefox with deactivated NoScript and /or AdBlock
“This typically occurs after you change your password, remove your Server “Device” entry, or otherwise invalidate the existing authentication token that your Server uses.”
iirc, I did remove the server while it was trying to connect. It said it would reappear once the server was restarted , and hasn’t reappeared, do you know how I can get it back on the server list, then I can go through the guide you just posted?
Or should I just go through the guide first?
Thanks for your help btw!

Yes, that’s why I posted it.
Those entries are not there, even after restarting
Just deinstall PMS
install it again from a freshly downloaded install.exe
afterwards, collect and zip up the installer logfile
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\Plex Media Server_201608???????.log
and all other logfiles
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200250417 (the whole folder, please)
and attach it here
I don’t see any errors in the installer log.
But it appears a large part of Plex server is not starting up properly.
- Which Antivirus are you using?
- How much space is left on drive C:\ ?
- Are you using any type of ‘internet security’ solution or personal firewall, apart from the default Windows firewall?
- If you go into the list of installed app, do you see ‘Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 redistributable’ in there as installed?
- Is your Windows Version a “N” (without Windows Media Player)?
When you uninstalled Plex, have you made sure that nothing Plex-related was still running on the machine?
Task Manager: shut down any processes with ‘Plex’ or ‘Python’ in their name
Were you running Plex as a Windows system service?
Have you installed Plex under a different user account than the user ‘plex’ before?
I am using microsoft security essentials/windows defender
There is 290GB free space on C:
I am not using any additional security (routers firewall is also turned off)
I do see microsoft visual C++2015 redistributable , both 32 & 64 bit versions ,also older versions (i’ve attached a screenshot)
I am not sure, but I can see that windows media player is installed
I cannot gaurentee that all plex/python processes where shutdown (PHT and sickrage/plexpy may have been running)
Plex was never ran as a service or been install on another account
I am going to turn off my antivirus, firewall, and use revo uninstaller to remove anything related to plex(server, home theater ,player)
I will try find an older version of plex and then install that, perhaps there’s an issue with the newest version?
Have you instructed the installer to install Plex to the drive B: ?
Does it even exist?
No plex should be getting installed onto C:\ (named zed) which is where windows is installed
The B:\ drive does exist but is only used to store media
There is also the pee but again should only be used to store media
I just realized you have may meant to try reinstall plex onto the B:, will do that now!!

No, don’t. It will only introduce another unnecessary deviation from a default install.
Alrighty then, any other thoughts on what to do?
have you ever fiddled about the network stack parameters of Windows?
please see https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/215609417
another question: are you running any type of VPN software?
You are a genius, I did indeed run a TCP optimizer, and following that guide has fixed everything.
Now for waiting on 10+TB worth of media to have it’s metadata downloaded
Thanks again for all your help.
