My virgin media broadband comes in to a Superhub 2 in modem mode which is then connected to a Cisco 1100 router which I need for home working (telemedicine). This is connected to an ethernet switch to supply all the wired devices in the house. A tp-link mesh wifi system is also connected to the switch (only wifi solution for an old large house with thick walls). Good wired and wireless speeds through the house (>100Mbps).
I have a Synology DS220+ with Plex server installed. I’m tearing my hair out because I can’t even get Plex running on the devices in the house never mind outside! I’ve tried connecting the NAS to the ethernet switch and to the mesh wifi but I can’t get it to stream to other wireless devices eg Roku on TV in kitchen.
It might just be too complicated anetwork setup to get it working but any help hugely appreciated!

You have a few things tagged here but speak to basic in-home operation.
How about we address that first ?
My first questions are related to the IP addresses
- Is everything in your home on the same subnet ?
- Is your home subnet RFC-1918 compliant ?
Thanks for the quick reply - unfortunately I’m not sure about the answer to 1 and definitely have no idea about 2! Any way I can check these?
Great thanks. So yes & yes!
Yes - looks much nicer that way! Have also tried connecting NAS to mesh
Yes signed in and claimed
Done.
Yes have added libraries and set up home page
Working much better now thanks. Streaming nicely on phones, PCs and firestick.
Not working on the Roku stick though. Coming up with error “your connection is not fast enough…” Must be a problem with the Roku as works fine on phone when in the same room.
Wireless but has good connection
Just when trying to play video. Browses files fine.
Right. I have discovered another complication! When trying random files on all the devices some play fine and others are not playing at all. It seems to be playing H.264 files fine but not MPEG4/HVEC.
To test the Roku I tried playing 2 Family Guy episodes (H.264) and it just gave me a black screen. When I tried Archer S11E01 (HVEC) it gave me the error as before. I have attached the XML text for this episode.
On my wired PC it will not play the MPEG4 or HVEC media I have tried (Castle in the Sky and My Neighbout Totoro should be in that log from my PC). Oddly enough these play fine on my phone via WiFi.
Plex Media Server Logs_2021-02-08_18-58-51.zip (6.5 MB) archerinfo.txt (3.3 KB)
Having read around I have tried the fix to force the NAS to use the i965 driver and that seems to have worked.
Just the Roku still causing problems!
Hmmm, since I added the workaround in Preferences.xml it’s all working perfectly - even the Roku which I have just retested. I’ll probably just leave it alone now but reserve the right to come crawling back when it all breaks again! Thanks so much for all your help.
