My laptop died and I can not get Plex to now work from my new one. I have searched the FAQ and found “How to move to a new computer” in which it talks about copying things from the register of the old computer…that is obviously not an option. Is it not possible to to switch to a new computer?
Please explain “can not get Plex to now work”.

Depends on what died. If the hard disk is still intact, one could remove it from the old laptop and then plug it into the new computer. To copy all the contents from the Plex data folder and the registry branch as well.
I can not get it to play on my Roku. I guess I assumed I could just install and link to my Roku as I had did the first time I started. If this is some 30 step process that apparently involves taking my old laptop apart I will just look for another program.
It depends on what you want to do.
If you don’t need the old Plex metadata, then just install Plex server freshly and point it to your media files.
Your actual media files are somewhere where the new computer can find them, right?
If they were only stored on the old computer, then the Roku can of course not play them.
