Connecting directly or via the web app url

My Plex server is running on a Synology NAS. I can connect to it via a browser using any of the following links:

  1. http:// 192.168.1.108:32400
  2. https:// app.plex.tv/desktop

I prefer the second because it is “cleaner”, is there are any difference between them - especially when it comes to performance?

I’ve never noticed any difference in performance, but I always keep a bookmark of the IP just in case the internet goes down.
