I already remark that behavior is not the same using these different addresses. for instance using plex.tv address, the button upper right to “stream” is greyed and I can’t stream to my chromecast or my mibox (is it normal ?)
also, before updating my plex server, even the “format” of the web page was different between plex.tv address and personnal address.
the bundled version of Plex Web – as the name says… this version is bundled with your server; this release has to be updated with server upgrades and tends to be a few releases behind.
Technically you only need the bundled version to setup your server. Afterwards I personally prefer using the hosted version as it has the latest updates / fixes / new features.
are we agree that when you talk about lastest update and feature our are talking about the website only, right ? not the database construction, film naming, parsing of names or stuff like that ? those are done by the plex server in my nas, right ?
but maybe the “player” could have updates using plex.tv website instead of the bundled one. right ?
What about the “stream” of the film ? in all case, the stream of the film is from my plex server to the navigator without going through plex.tv server ?
You said that you always use plex.tv website but isn’t “cast” icon on up right greyed when you use plex.tv website ?
Also what about confidentiality ? for displaying films it is not a problem but if you are displaying personnal photo for instance ? if you use plex.tv website, it means that photo are displayed by plex.tv and then this server store (temporarly or not) all your personnal photo that you displayed ?
Correct – this is only about the “player” and not touching the server part. Users tend to mix them up.
The device selection for casting isn’t greyed out for me. In the end, the web app is loaded and executed in your local browser – so running the hosted vs. bundled version should not make any difference about that.
Same for the “confidentiality” – the data isn’t uploaded to Plex, it still resides on your server and is loaded from there.
