I’ve been streaming high quality 4k movies from my server to a NVIDIA Shield TV, and for some videos (mkv), the video buffers constantly providing the “Connection not fast enough error.” The videos are not being transcoded (on the server activity now playing, it shows direct play). I’ve checked the upload speed on the server (300 Mbits/sec) and the download speed on the Shield (350 Mbits/sec), and both are very high. The bitrate of the videos is around 60000-65000 kbps. Hardware acceleration is enabled.
Oddly, some videos with the same bitrate play fine while others will constantly stutter.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this?
Thanks!

Plex optimizer can be used also for shrinking the movie file to a more compatible format for devices as well. I just mentioned it if it was a trouble shooting guide if all else fells. I would think it could be your wifi setup, especially for 4k. If possible could you run a ethernet cord from your switch, router or server straight to the nvidia shield? If it direct plays then you know where the problem starts. I say this because I also have an nvidia shield and direct plays all my media from 1080p and 4k, but I’m hardline to it.
Ok, what I would do next if I’m in this problem I would first focus on my server. Make sure all drivers are up to date, do a virus and malware scan, use a cleaner for trash files, Then reboot system.
Then do same to the Shield, update system and make sure plex is up to date, reboot system.
If still continues then I would assume it’s the media format you are trying to send to the Shield. Then I would use Plex optimizer or a 3rd party conversion program to make it more compatible to the Shield but still be in 4k.
