Constant buffering on both my Xbox One and NVIDIA Shield apps

So today when I went to use Plex, everything I tried to view would either be stuck on buffering and would not play at all, or it would play for a few seconds and then getting stuck on buffering.

I have no idea why this would happen. Everything has been fine for the most part, for a while, with no changed being made between yesterday and today.

Playing something from the server directly seems to work fine however.

In an attempt to fix it, I have tried restarting the apps, restarting the devices, restarting the NAS, etc. Nothing worked.

I also manually updated the server to the latest version which was not yet on the Synology package center, and that made no difference either.

Not sure what to do. :frowning:

Server Version#: 1.19.1.2645-ccb6eb67e (on a Synology DS918+)
Player Version#: 2.52.1.70 (Xbox One)
Player Version#: 7.31.0.16802 (NVIDIA Shield)

may i see the DEBUG logs please of a capture which demonstrates what’s happening?

We can at least see if server or applications and, if server, get it resolved.

How do I share the debug logs? I went to settings > plex web > debug and then enabled debugging, went to try and play a movie, ant then clicked on the “You can view the debug logs here.” link, but now it’s insanely long and seems to be constantly logging new things. No idea how to share it though.

Settings - SERVER - Troubleshooting (Left Pane) - Download Logs

Thanks. Here they are

Tried the “Plex dance” thing but that didn’t work either :frowning:

Well I tried using Emby and Kodi, and both of them did not stream properly either. Kodi constantly buffered, much like Plex, and with Emby you could barely even press play (although that could just be due to it being a bad app, and it seems like you need to pay now. Xbox One app refused to play at all without subscribing. The Shield app could let me play, but it barely did anything. Plays for like 1 second and says it’s in trial mode and to subscribe by May something)

So maybe there’s a problem with my NAS somehow?

Okay, I think I may have fixed it.

I stopped Plex, turned off the router, restarted the NAS, turned the router back on.

It now appears to be working. :slightly_smiling_face: Gonna watch something now and fingers crossed there won’t be any buffering surprises.

Sounds like a fundamental networking issue.

You aren’t, by chance, using Jumbo Frames, are you?

Ah I wouldn’t have a clue.
