Constant Buffering (Xbox 360 PlexApp)

Xbox 360 PlexApp constantly buffers.  I was looking in my running processes and noticed a PlexNewTranscoder process running.  i have different versions of Plex (ex., iOS, Android, Plex Home Theather etc...) and i don't ever remember seeing "PlexNewTranscoder" all my media are MP4 format.

  • Could the "PlexNewTranscoder" be the cause of the constant buffering of my video files?
  • Does Xbox 360 not support MP4 format, is that why transcode is needed?
  • Will there be a fix for this in the near future?
  • Is there a format that doesn't require transcode with the Xbox 360??
  • Or am i out of luck and just need to purchase a new PC with a better Processor??

Well I assigned a higher priority to “PlexNewTranscoder” process and that helped a little (but not really) not as much buffering, but still enough to be annoying. So still need help, so if anyone can answer the questions in my previous post, that would be awesome.

I had really bad buffering when I first started using it. I switched from Wireless to hardwired and mine went away.

I have a similar issue with my setup, When watching anything seems to play for a 10 seconds, then buffer very briefly then play then buffer and so on.  The issue seems to be with .mkv files.  I can play them via DNLA and on my phone (via Plex) with no issues.  I'm confused as to why Plex would need to transcode it, I thought the Xbox 360 now supported .mkv files.

I had a similar issue, after the video starts, changing the quality to maximum fixes it. For whatever reason, there currently isn't a way to set the default quality to maximum, it always starts at 4mbps (720p)

If someone else knows a way to change the default quality, please, by all means, let us know. My computer can handle the transcoding and quite honestly most of my collection is under that threshold, but I still don't like to transcode if I can help it... seems inefficient I guess?

Yepo,  unfortunately mine is buffering on every file, even in a wired setup, roku box, wireless link to samsung tv all work fine. its a same was looking forward to having this on the xbox.

hopefully an upate will come out that fixes these niggles

imo, i dont think it is, what is the CPU usage for the PlexNewTranscoder process? have you tried changing the transcoder quality on PMS settings?
