Container is unavailable for analysis having to re-analyse recorded tv

My server is a Synology DS1019 running DSM 6.2.3-25426 Update 3. However, my preferred playback device is an (AppleTV 4) running the PLEX app.

Here you go. Yep the container looks missing:

Before: Deliver Us.xml - Google Drive
After I did a manual re-analysis: Deliver us -after manual analysis.xml - Google Drive

I run a MacOS server. Did you need anything further. I can easily record other things if you need more examples.

Nope I have enough info for now.

Hi. I tested with 1.21.3.4046, and it’s still an issue. Mind you, I did not see any mention of this in the release notes, so that’s to be expected. Any update you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks.

Any update would be most welcome. Is it a confirmed issue now?

I can confirm that this issue happens when that container info is not available and that analyzing fixes it. I haven’t confirm why it’s missing that info. It’s there on my test DVR recordings.

Is there any further tests you’d like me to do. I have noticed that some recordings do direct play and don’t have the ā€˜container’ error message and others need the manual analysis as before and have the ā€˜container’ error message. This is a change from when all recordings needed a manual re-analysis.

@johnnynav and @wesleybear84 might have noted this change too.

Recorded this today: /Inside Culture with Mary Beard (2020)/Season 02/Inside Culture with Mary Beard (2020) - S02E06 - Inside Culture with Mary Beard.ts

XML: 9192.xml - Google Drive

And get the error:

recorded: Bloodlands (2021)/Season 01/Bloodlands (2021) - S01E01 - Bloodlands.ts

Before manual re-analyse: Bloodlands before manual re-analyse.xml - Google Drive

After manual re-analyse: Bloodlands after manual re-analyse.xml - Google Drive

Any update on this? Has it been logged as a bug or are we not that far yet? @anon18523487

Yes it would be nice not to have to analyze everything I record before watching it. There’s another side effect of this problem too. Using the ā€œskip adsā€ function when the file hasn’t been analyzed causes the playback to freeze. The playback has to be stopped and restarted to get it playing again.

Yep. I noticed that last night too, on Android TV (Shield).

I think that behaviour makes sense too. If it’s being transcoded, you can’t suddenly skip forward without some delay.

Oh, that’s not good.

Can either of you provide me a sample that includes the entire intro so I can test this?

I’ve filed it with the team. This skip intro bug makes it more urgent so if I can get this confirmed, it may get more attention.

Does Skip Intro use the same process as Skip Ads? I don’t usually use Skip Intro but I always use Skip Ads. If you tell me what I need to send you, I can.

It’s not possible to run the skip ads after it’s already been recorded so I won’t be able to use that. If the episode has an intro, PMS can scan that so I can try to reproduce on my end.

I’m surprised that after the intro detection ran, that it didn’t fully analyze the file and it was still left without the container info.

I’m not really clear on what you are saying. Are you saying that Skip Ads is different than Skip Intro? I use the setting ā€œDetect Commercials and Mark for Skipā€ when I record shows. Skip Ads doesn’t work properly if I haven’t manually analyzed the show prior to watching it. I rarely see Skip Intro because most shows that are recorded from an antenna start right into the show.

If I don’t run ā€œAnalyzeā€ on the show before watching it, the show doesn’t Direct Play because Plex can’t figure out the container. And then when I hit the button to Skip Ads, the playback is frozen for the length of time it takes for the commercials to actually play. I can also exit out of the show and resume it instead of waiting for the commercial play time. When it resumes, the show resumes at the end of the commercials.

If I run ā€œanalyzeā€ on the show before watching it, the show Direct Plays and Skip Ads works properly. Clearly the Skip Ads problem is related to the fact that the show is not Direct Playing and/or the fact that the type of container is missing.

No, I’m saying that i can run Intro detection on a sample you give me so i can then try to reproduce the issue. I cannot run Ad detection so I can’t test that. The intro/ad information is saved in your PMS, not the file so giving me a sample with an ad won’t help.

Has there been any progress on this? I can see it’s been a week since any communications has taken place. Are you still waiting for a file? If so I’ll be happy to provide you with whatever you require. Just let me know what file you need.

Thanks
Johnny
