I have just added all Shakespeare plays to my Asustor Nimbustor4 NAS and Plex doesn’t show them at all in the android client.

It does, however, show a whole raft of content I have never heard of, but which turns out to be other TV programmes I have ripped in the past.
For example there are a whole load of seasons of “Drama” which when I look at it, seems to be the Sharpe series that I ripped recently. Why it doesn’t show as Sharpe, I have no idea.
And it has added a raft of “Action” which seems to be The A-Team.

What is going on here?

Mind sharing some more details?
What kind of media are we talking about – I suppose this is theatre video recordings?
How did you name those files and what kind of library are you using for them (movie/tv-shows/other video)?

Hi, of course.
I have a library at plex/library with various folders under that for music, TV, movies.
This the TV programmes like a-team and sharpe, are in dubfoldedx here, so forcexample Shsrpe’s Gold is under plex/library/tv programmes/sharpe/sharpes gold and is named sharpes gold.mkv.

They are on a tv-programmes library.

When it comes to TV Shows, Plex will be very strict for your files to follow their naming conventions. If you include additional layers of folders it’ll mix things up – badly.

TV Shows should be named like this:

tv programmes <- the folder added to the Plex tv-show library
  show name
    season XX
show name - sXXeYY - optional text, e.g. episode name.ext
      show name - sXXeYY.ext

where XX is the season number, YY is the episode number and .ext is the file extension

As for your specific show

For Plex to properly add your files and match it to that show, use the following naming:

tv programmes
  Sharpe
    Season 03
      Sharpe - s03e01 - Sharpe's Gold.ext

Last not least…

Do not store your media in the plex share of your NAS. That share is solely used to store the data of Plex database (metadata, artwork…). If you add your media to the same share, this will most definitely cause hiccups in the long run!

Hmm, well U could move the entire library I suppose, though I’d like to know why storing in any particular folder should be a problem.

I could also rename files but why should this be a problem for Sharpe but not for example, for all my Yes Minister series?

And what when the show is not in seasons? The Shakespeare plays, fof example, were all made for BBC TV, but they are not arranged in seasons.

Also, I assume I will have to rebuild the entire database if I move files?
How do I do that? Will a simple rescan remove all the old entries or will I end up with duplicates?
Is it possible to force a complete clean-up and rescan?

Yes they are.

Interesting. The DVDs have no indication of that. It seems a bit restrictive having to follow such a strict naming convention and folder structure.
I wonder if Emby does it better…

I’ve moved all media files but when I try to add the new folder for music to the music library, Plex says it cannot save the changes!
