I have noticed shows that I have finished watching are showing up in my continue watching list.
I strongly suspect this is part of the long standing bug where Plex fails to identify the end of a video and plays from the start again with a black screen but I could easily be wrong.
To replicate the issue I watch an episode of a show and stopped at the end, the progress bar shows all the way across but the episode is not marked as watched. If I look on Plex web or any player the episode is then added to the continue watching list. If I then try to watch the episode I am prompted to resume playing from 1 second before the end of the episode.
I always thought Plex had some kind of 99% rule so if you stop a film or tv show during the credits it would be considered watched so I’m inclined to think that this is another example of Plex not being able to detect the end of a piece of media or is prevented from behaving normally when the end is reached.
Could this be anything to do with the skip intro feature? Is marking a skip point confusing the interpretation of the end point?
The frustrating thing is I cannot replicate this with all media all the time, even the same video played a second time doesn’t have the same issue.

I notice this problem also.
I see it mostly on recordings. I have setup to remove commercials. then when i play the recordings it plays to the end shows bar at bottom as completed and is marked watched but still shows up in continue watching.
Could it have something to do with the smaller files size AKA short play time after the commercials have been removed and plex not using that shorter time in continue watching?
Just about every recording i watch i have to manually remove from continue watching to clean it up.
Like the OP where is the setting to adjust when something should not show up anymore in continue watching?
Noticed this bug the last few weeks. It seems to affect movies more than tv shows for me. In fact, every movie. Even if I let it play all of the way to the end of the credits.
Like the OP, the continue watching hub shows the entry with just a few seconds left of play time, and asks if you want to watch from the few remaining seconds it sees there.
I’m not sure if this started to happen after a server upgrade or app upgrade. I would guess it is probably related to the move Plex has to combine Continue watching and On Deck.
May or may not be related. when a TV show is watched all the way to the end (including credits), Plex Web continues to show the episode as playing until you exit the screen in the android app. The Android app properly shows the epiode as played, and the next episode is highlighted as “next up”
I’ll attach some server logs that may show this, but I imagine you would want some App logs, which are not quite so easy to get, and I’m sure the devs can reproduce themselves.Plex Media Server Logs_2021-01-10_07-03-01.zip (6.1 MB)
