[BUG] Android TV doesn't always mark episodes as watched

I have recently dug my Shield out of storage to test out the Plex app once again(do this every month or so to see if the app has improved) and I experienced issues with random episodes not being marked as watched.

Yesterday, I watched the majority of Season 3 of The Office, only to find that the Shield did not mark these as watched as it should have. S3E11 - S3E19.

This also messes up my Continue Watching:

What gives? I watched all of these episodes all the way until the end, and autoplay played the next episode and everything.

I observe the same behavior with my different FireTVs.

Interesting. It may be worth noting that I have never seen this behavior with my Roku or with the Windows Plex app.

I’ve seen the same thing. I have both Roku and Chromecast with Google TV and the Roku works properly while the Google TV leaves episodes in progress.

I don’t often watch to the very end. I usually stop when the credits start with about 3-4 minutes left on the file.

Use Android TV and often encounter this.

Bumping for acknowledgement.

Bump. Anyone able to confirm this is a bug on the Plex side?

Looking for some sort of confirmation that this is being tracked as a bug on the Plex side.

I have a similar problem when playing music videos on Android devices where they aren’t being marked as played and showing in the Continue Watching hub (exactly as depicted in your images). It’s frustrating to have to manually remove each one individually from CW - especially when there’s literally hundreds of them. This was not an issue prior to the recent ā€˜overhaul’ of the On Deck/CW hubs.

We are tracking the issue, thanks for the report.

Thank you for confirming the issue is being tracked!

It’s been a month since your reply and I am still having this issue. Any idea when we can expect a fix?
Thank you!

Any updates? Really frustrating.

Google TV running version 8.24.0.37973 (eabde95e)

Anytime I watch an episode or even manually mark as ā€˜Watched’ via the episode list it stays in the ā€˜Home’ screen under ā€˜Continue Watching’.

After navigating away to pull the app/version number and scrolling to TV Shows it no longer showed up and after scrolling back up to ā€˜Home’ they were removed after a second or two (assume some reload/refresh occurred).

HTH.

I’ve been having this problem for a while as well, it wouldn’t normally bug me that much, I’d just mark the episodes as played, but this bug also causes Plex to not send the webhook to Trakt meaning that it doesn’t record the time I watched something.

@marekszulik - Any news? Going on 2 months now (since you acknowledged) and this is still happening fairly regularly.

This happened again last night when I went to resume an episode of The Office on a different Shield device.

I fall asleep to The Office and set a sleep timer - it played about 3-4 episodes - all of them are showing as follows this morning:

I started by playing ā€œMoving Onā€ from the CW row - but decided to skip to the next episode. I’m wondering if this (resuming an episode from the CW row but then skipping to the next episode) has anything to do with this bug?

I have an export of my PMS logs, with debugging enabled, if a Plex employee responds and would like them, I can provide them.
Client version: 8.26.2.29389
Server version: 1.24.1.4931

Thank you.

@marekszulik

Still happening frequently on 8.27.0.29494.

Incredibly annoying. Any update from Plex?

Can confirm this is an ongoing issue as well in the current Plex app for Android on Samsung Tab S6

Any updates from the Plex team @marekszulik @DaveBinM

I don’t have anything further at the moment.
