Continue Watching item not synced

I have one item in the Continue Watching section that keeps showing up. I have marked the episode as Played several times, but it doesn’t seem to persist.

What’s the easiest/cleanest solution to clear the cache for this one item? I don’t want to lose any metadata for other items.

Most likely it has a release date that lies in the future.
Check the date on the video file itself and change it if necessary.
Do also check embedded metadata (only if it’s a mp4 file).
Perform the Plex dance with the file.
