Continued development LG webOS client? Subtitles, UHD, HDR etc

Continuing the discussion from LG webOS Plex 3.60.1 Buffering Problem:

I see regular small update and bug fixes to the LG client, but there is a serious issue which seems to be not on the ‘fix this soon’ list.

I do not live in an English speaking country, nor am I born in one. Therefore all my media is foreign to me, and I use subtitles all the time. I got myself a nice UHD tv with some bells and whistles. I don’t think I am unique in this. The official Plex LG client has never worked well for me. Buffering. Subtitle problems. Removing HDR. Dolby Atmos problems. So I moved to the third party client XPlay, which has been working almost flawlessly. Unfortunately it seems this client is no longer being developed, and one of these days it wil stop working. When that happens I can no longer play my media.
I am hoping, asking, pleading, the dev’s to have a new client before this happens. A client which can play the high quality media files with today’s standards; with (external) subtitles without the need to transcode. With support for UHD. HDR. Dolby Atmos. 10bit depth. The XPlay client has been doing this for a long time, so it is not an impossible request.
And if you’re not planning to do this, be clear about it please. Because I will have to save up for some hardware that will be able to handle my media. Until now I was assuming the client would be updated in due time, but I havent seen signs of this in the last year, so I am asking; should I stop waiting and look for alternatives, or is it better to wait?

As said, I am not a native English speaker. I have tried to avoid accusations, whining, demanding or being uncivilized. I am playing the ‘I treat you decent, you treat me decent’ card though

Thx for your time,

S.

Nice post, but Plex will never officially answer you, based on previous experience. I hope I’m wrong though, because I also have problems with the WebOS client.

I have the same exact issue. I have a Samsung UE50MU6120KXZT on which I can just play fine movies with subtitles.
With my LG 32LK6200, the same file with the same subtitles cannot be played without trasncoding (which makes it unplayable), while using XPlay it just runs fine, as on Samsung TV.

This highlight that it is definitely an issue with webOS Plex TV app, and there is a way to fix it, because Xplay manages to play it correctly.

Plex TV version on webOS (version 4.1.0) which I am using is the latest one (3.13.28). Overall, the service is just fabolous but this is a blocking issue on webOS, so it is very important to fix it.
