Hi all,
My Plex transcode every 4K movie when I use subtitles regardless to the type of the subtitles or burn/non-burn subs to the film which I found is a known issue.
I found that newer clients are able to handle this issue and play the original video rather than transcode it.
My Smart TV: LG 55UH661V; WebOS 3.0 Version 05.50.55
But the latest version of Plex client on the LG store is from 2016, which is why I experience this issue.
I was trying to see where and if I can download a newer client and install it manually on the LG TV but I didn’t find so far.
All I found is the link below which is the release notes for Plex LG client, newest is 3.98.0 - but how can I get it?
Did anyone manage to update the Plex client on LG TV to have newer version from 2016t? it’s been 3 years since then…
The app auto updates when you run it. The app on the app store is just a set of commands to download the latest version (if needed) and then run it. In short, you don’t manually install updates and you’ll already be running the latest version.
Hi Krazeh,
Thank you very much for the information, sorry I wasn’t able to understand it before, I feel silly.
Any chance you / someone else know when the issue with the current client transcode every 4K UHD movie will be resolve? I’ve tried SRT external/PGS - both have the same issue
or else is it some configuration that I need to make to resolve the issue?
PGS subtitles will always transcode as they have to be added into the video stream. SRT subs shouldn’t trigger a transcode. What format is the video and audio for files which transcode?
Transcoded audio + any subtitles results in a video transcode.
Try choosing the AAC, AC3, or dts audio track, if available. It looks like your TV supports dts-HD as well. TrueHD is not listed, so it will probably transcode. LG 55UH661V Tech Specs
Also, check the audio settings in the Plex app to make sure the correct codecs are selected.
I have the same problem, but only in 4K resolutions (mkv, HEVC). I have tried subtitles SRT, ASS and PGS and the problem described by the partner occurs. However, turning off the subtitles everything is fine. With 1080p resolutions this does not happen.
