It looks like the new Plex experience is listing the Specials season at the end of the season list, instead of the beginning like it has worked previously. It would be great if there was some way to choose whether it’s placed at the end or the beginning on a per-show basis, because both ways make sense depending on the show.
Ideally, it would be possible to place special episodes in-line with other seasons as well, but there are already open feature requests about that.
Yeah…. Specials after Seasons feels weird but often Specials are items that do come after regular seasons so I agree a per show option would be nice.
I think an option for the global display would be nice to have if it can’t be per show. Maybe per library? Moving “specials” after it’s been in that location on pretty much every platform for years is kinda jarring.
Example: Girls und Panzer. Season 01 is the initial TV series and then the Specials are all sequel releases (OVAs and movies) - and there is more sequel content than Season 01 content so having it after Season 01 kinda fits better.
Example 2: Helluva Boss. Specials are mini-episodes interspersed amongst the seasons (not even getting into the Queen Bee episode order drama). In that case I’d like it to be first.
Plus having it first kinda triggers you to take a look and see what’s in it before jumping into the regular seasons so you’ll know when you might need to come back into it.
So, personally, my favorite version of this would be a global\library setting with customization per show. Kinda like Collections handles visibility or Shows Library handle episode ordering … you set a global default but can make individual adjustments when needed as well.
I do like the Specials at the end, since they’re usually not very important. But sometimes they’re prequels, so they really should be at the beginning. Like Spartacus, where the specials are a prequel season. And it aired after Season 1, so it might be good to be able to put it in order between Season 1 and 2.
