Controlling Plex Media Player on Mac

Backgroud:
Recently the client I usually use has started to have problems (probably hardware). So I’ve gone back to using Plex Media Player after a VERY long time of not having used it.

The article linked above says I can control Plex Media Player with my Apple Remote. This doesn’t work. What’s more it doesn’t even appear as if the Plex Media Player was built for anything other than a mouse. Am I doing something wrong? Or is that article broken?

If the article is lying, what client do people use on Macs? Ideally I’d like something simple that can be controlled with remote control that can also adjust the volume on my TV. Like a Harmony remote or my favorite remote, a TiVo Slide (with a built in keyboard).

You can Test this Expension for IR Receiver , called Candleair

3 years after Plex Media Player was released I finally notice that using the apple way of full screening the application leaves it in the annoying web ui mode (mouse driven). You have to actually click the app’s non standard way of full screening the application to put it into a mode where the remote control will actually do something.

I wonder how many others are lost. I think it’s fair to say that the documentation I linked to is in fact, incorrect. Plex Media Player can NOT be controlled by a keyboard - in particular up, down, left and right do NOT work unless you are in the TV full screen mode - and not simply in full screen mode. There is a huge difference. And it seems unnecessarily hard to find the TV mode.
