Conversion failed. The Transcoder crashed or failed to start up.

Seems like this is a common issue, but I can’t seem to find a clear solution. It has been happening for some time, but I was waiting until I upgraded my server in hopes that would solve the issue, however, it did not.

I am running a 2012 Mac Mini on the latest version of OSX for the server.
Using Amazon Fire TV and Sticks all over the house.

I get this error on various files: Conversion failed. The Transcoder crashed or failed to start up.

Can someone point me in the right direction? I’m assuming there is a post with the solution someplace,

We’re talking about files that worked until some months back during one of the upgrades. I can’t imagine Plex support for formats got worse in one of the upgrade. There has to be something on the server side that is not working.

I do not use uPnP and should not be required.

If there is evidence of regression please provide logs and a sample of what worked before

I did leave the log … what kind of other information should I gather?

Not sure if I messed up the sample or not, it was low quality to begin with. But I have tons of kids movies that were working up until some time ago. I also found some other posts about remove the sub title files and solving the problem, but that did not work for me.

I’ll create some additional samples of other files for fun. I don’t disagree that its a crap quality file, but it was working in the past is the point. I’ll see what better ones I have.

I’m in the process of replacing the movies with better qualities, so its not a huge deal, but again these are files that were working (regardless of the quality) with the Plex transcoder so something changed.
