Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error. when having external subtitle

For some videos, the external subtitles are not recognized when scanning my library. Although the naming is fine, refreshing metadata does not help. and when choosing upload the subtitle, Plex web (and the clients) won’t playback the file and shows Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error. as error.
