I recently started using Managed Users for my roommates and certain locations, like “Living Room” for example. I am doing this so everyone can keep track of their own watched status instead of everyone using the main user account. The problem I am running into is that I have created a lot of playlists that I assumed would be available to everyone. They are not, and the current method of “sharing” is woefully inadequate. Instead of showing up in the target user’s Playlists section, they show up in a “shared” section, like a redheaded stepchild. I want all the playlists I have created to show up in everyone’s pinned playlist section. I am unconcerned about restricting editing, my roommates are adults. Currently, the ONLY option I have is to go to the main account, click the 3 dots on a playlist, then select “Grant Access”, pick the users and then click Send, which only sends them to the “Shared” section as I mentioned earlier, which is awkward and unwanted.
I am now looking for a way to manually copy the actual playlists themselves, whether they be database managed or file managed to each of my users. Does anyone know where or how they are stored?
@TimTales After you log into WebTools > Left Menu > Playlists > Select the user you want to copy the playlist from [Self or other managed users] in the dropdown and select who you want to copy it to [target user] > Then press the “copy” button on the playlist from the “listed” playlists. Works like a charm.
While this DID work, I found the whole process too much work for my wants/needs. I really just wanted all of my playlists to be available to all of my users already. This solution is fine if you aren’t constantly making or editing your playlists, and I am constantly creating/deleting/editing my playlists.
Ideally, what I want is a simple checkbox when I’m creating/editing playlists to make the playlist available to all other users. Anything less than that becomes unmanageable.
For now, I have simply gone back to using the same user for all devices. Having the playlists available everywhere is far more important to me than tracking watched status.
3.0.0 is (ironically) an older version of WebTools.
The one linked in my previous post might have been a fork but is the one that is still be developed (I believe, one of the Plex employees is a developer on it outside of their Plex responsibilities). @dane22 would be able to give better info on that.
