This (just like the feature request regarding multiple versions of a movie) is EXACTLY why I actually wrote a physical letter to the 2 top people at Plex HQ. What is the use of having a forum and letting users (AND PAYING USERS) suggest feature requests, when the Plex developers (or anyone else at Plex for that matter), do not even look at or even entertain the requests? Like I said in another post, will see if my letter falls on deaf ears and gets ignored just like this forum.
Plex probably makes more money from the ad supported content and selling of user analytics, than from Plex pass sales. When it comes to improving the home media experience, it just doesn’t seem the will is there.
Neither of which they could do if they didn’t have the users. Keep the users happy, especially the paid up ones and the user base expands through word of mouth, thus increasing revenue.
+1
Also just upgraded to 5.1.2 along with all my movies that have ATMOS or DTS:X it’s a pain to go into More and then Info just to look at the file name to see if it has ATMOS
Plex would basically be perfect for me if this were implemented!
Another request that is over 4 years old and with over 360 votes yet Plex continues to ignore it. It can’t be hard, yet would give the paying users what they want.
Whilst there is no method to combine Dolby Vision and HDR/SDR video streams into a single file, the identification of the type of video stream would be really useful. I see in the file info section in plex, it does recognise the file as having Dolby Vision there, but to have an appropriate symbol on the main page would help.
Same goes for Atmos/DTS-X
If the logo’s for Atmos/DTS-X as well as Dolby Vision are copyright, just to have the words would be fine.
Precisely. This is such a basic feature to implement, if only Plex would actually listen to their customers instead of investing their time in pointless live TV features that nobody asked for.
Voted…I’m guessing there’s still no word on this?
Nope!
I also voted even if I have no hope.
I have to manually tag my films in ATMOS to be able to create smart lists. this is the only way I have found to be able to make these selections.
Just adding my vote. I get that you can’t show the logo because of royalty’s but a simple text/button/whatever is enough
Hell, even a filter like what we have now for HDR would be better then nothing.
I know, it would be so easy for them to implement but this is just yet another user request that gets ignored by Plex at the expense of them tinkering with features that nobody asked for. I’m not sure that I have come across a more arrogant company, TBH.
I want this feature too
Suggestion, I’m currently using MediaInfo to see what’s inside a movie. It gives back something like this for audio:
Audio #1
- ID : 2
- Format : MLP FBA 16-ch
- Format/Info : Meridian Lossless Packing FBA with 16-channel presentation
- Commercial name : Dolby TrueHD with Dolby Atmos
- Codec ID : A_TRUEHD
- Duration : 4 h 23 min
- Bit rate mode : Variable
- Bit rate : 2 971 kb/s
- Maximum bit rate : 4 515 kb/s
- Channel(s) : 8 channels
- Channel layout : L R C LFE Ls Rs Lb Rb
- Sampling rate : 48.0 kHz
- Frame rate : 1 200.000 FPS (40 SPF)
- Compression mode : Lossless
- Stream size : 5.46 GiB (10%)
- Title : Atmos 7.1
- Language : English
- Default : Yes
- Forced : No
- Number of dynamic objects : 11
- Bed channel count : 1 channel
- Bed channel configuration : LFE
If it’s too hard to recognize isn’t there a possibility to partner up with someone like them and display the Commercial name (Dolby TrueHD with Dolby Atmos)?
If could be there instead of “7.1 TRUEHD”. No logo’s or the name Dolby needed: 7.1 TRUEHD with Atmos.
Or is even using the word Atmos a problem?
A small insight from Plex Employee over on Reddit:
“Let’s just say some logos are not free to add. I’ll leave it at that.”
I’ve suggested that if they couldn’t even use the names without logos (eg. ‘Dolby Vision’, ‘Dolby Atmos’ as plain text), could it be possible to use alternate names like ‘DOL-VIS’ or ‘HDR-DV’, and for audio something like ‘DOL-ATM’ or ‘TrueHD-DOL-ATM’?
This issue apparently has been around FOREVER, many closed topics in the forum. Not sure why there is reluctance to do this, technical, legal issues, etc.
However, why can’t there be USER DEFINED fields (give us 1,2,3 ) and make those available to us to do what we want - tag DOLBY ATMOS, etc, and then allow those to be used to filter and search across our content… I have other software (COLLECTORZ) than does a great job allowing a level of customization that allows lots of freedom and doesn’t impact the product’s development.
Very frustrating managing multiple places to find what content is where. I created a library of what I own on the streaming platforms so they come up when I search for a movie or TV show. Understanding that a link into MoviesAnywhere, etc is problematic, but give the community ways to do this (import a CVS file would work fine).
The best way, or I should say workaround, was to create collection for both DOLBY ATMOS and DTS-X. Everytime (time consuming) i add a new movie, i add it to the right collection.
Then, going into that collection to show all movies with DOLBY ATMOS or DTS-X.
But of course what would be just logic that if the movie is Atmos, that we see it show that info, not the TrueHD…
There should be also a way to sort by audio codec as there is for HDR, resolution, bitrate…
That should be part of the incorporation of the new asked feature imo.
Yes, I started down that path shortly after posting… lots of work to get the list of movies from my collection and then edit each in PLEX… so it will be a work in progress. And I don’t see any way to sort the Collection, looks like its presented in release date. order
