I’m still waiting to upgrade from 1.6.5 for this reason.
You have three options:
- Wait for an iHD driver fix if you have a newer 9th Gen CPU (I would not hold my breathe as this is dependant on Intel OTC developers)
- rm “/usr/lib/plexmediaserver/lib/dri/iHD_drv_video.so” (For 8th Gen CPUs and older)
- curl “http://127.0.0.1:32400/:/prefs/set?VaapiDriver=i965&X-Plex-Token=REDACTED”
I decided to give it a try. Updated to the latest version which is now 1.19.3.2764.
Running on my Synology DS918+, it seems the transcoding problem has been resolved. No more horrible pixelation.
I did not need to rm “/var/packages/Plex Media Server/target/lib/dri/iHD_drv_video.so”, though I will keep this in mind should the problem arise again.

Tried myself 1.19.3.2764 on a j5005 into LSIO docker image.
Still had to remove iHD_drv_video.so for transcode to work.
