When reporting issues, please provide actual version numbers. For better or worse, version changes occur quickly, and what was “latest” yesterday (or even earlier today) may not be today. It’s important to know when a problem was noticed (by version number). If you need help in tracking down versions, let us know.
Regarding your first issue, I’ve seen it reported by at least one other user in this post:
Interestingly, they were also using a Shield TV. Which model are you using? If one of the new models, is it the Pro or the base model?
For the second issue, you may want to try a “Restore Defaults” from the Plex app settings on the Shield and/or clearing the app cache in the Android settings for the app.
