Dear All,
I’m coming to you because I have a bit of an issue with a new setup I have made.
I was using Plex for Windows on a old NUC i3 5th GEN (2 cores) without any issue with a 1080p TV linked to it. Everything was fine…
Then I decided to upgrade my setup, as of now I’m using a NIC i3 10th GEN (2 cores - 4 Threads) with a 4K TV (scaling 300% in Windows configuration).
Since I upgraded my setup, Plex experience is almost unsuable. UI of Plex for Windows and video playback lag.
I want to say that I have a Plex server installed on a Synology NAS and configured to avoid any sort of encoding and all my files are 1080p/720p H.264.
Wierdly if I set Windows to 1080p, everything is smooth. This is where I don’t understand, since I have no video encoding setup anywhere, Plex should only stream my 1080p file without touching it but my CPU is over 95% while using Plex for Windows in 4K (20% for 1080p) and this is on the playback system not on the server.
I have done few tests and it seems that the stuttering is coming from my CPU/iGPU to be maxed out during full screen video playback using the Plex for Windows…
I find it very wierd that it takes so much ressources to playback a 1080p video… This is not the server …
Am I missing something in Plex server (or Plex for Windows) configuration ? I don’t think this is an hardware limitation tbh…
Note: I have tried with PMP in TV mode and everything is smooth as well even in 4K… I have as well other systems using 1080p screen and they don’t have any issue with Plex for Windows.
Apologies if this was already asked 100 times but I could not find anything specificaly related to this kind of issue (and I’m a noob as well
).
Thanks !
PS: nothing else was running on the system at that time, only Plex for Windows
