Crash at Credits. Please help!

Server Version#:4.100.1
Player Version#:Updated

Hello, I’m looking for some help.

Lately my Mac running PLEX server 4.100.1 has starting crashing at the very end of of watching a film. This has happened 3 times out of 4 viewings. I am unable to retrieve log files as an error screen appears that “something went wrong”.

This is the error that shows up on my TV usually just as the final credits begin:

Playback Error

http://192.168.1.64:32400/library/metadata/6896?checkFiles=1&includeChapters=1&includeMarkers=1,status: Network Error

The result of this is [from memory] the Libraries on the left hand side of the screen display a small exclamation mark icon and a spinning icon as though the system were attempting to “reload” the library as well as all the poster art turns grey with only the title visible in generic white type.

2019 iMAC OS 12.2.1 Monterey streaming to 2019 LGOLED CX. Thats it.
Plex server 4.100.1 and the TV has the most recent version [not sure how to look that up].

Is there anything I can do to correct this from happening?

Thanks very much for advice and opinion.

In the LG app, there is an option to send logging data to your server. Enable that. This only lasts for 20 minutes so you may need to re-enable this and try again if you cannot reproduce the issue in this time. Play something and skip forward to just before the credits. Let it play until it crashes.

Grab the server logs and upload it here.

I have the exact same issue.

2012 Macmini 6.1 running MacOS 13.4 streaming to LG OLED55CX TV.

Every time a playback finishes, the PMS process crashes on the Mac with the same error message as the OP.

Recent changes:

Updated PMS to newest version.
Updated LG TV to new version, which may have been a major update since there were some UI changes.

I don’t see the video going from 1 to the next, but I do see you trying to play S1E12 of Will Trent. The logs indicate that the file is being direct played, but the subtitles are being transcoded to make them more compatible with the app. PMS seems to be having trouble with this subtitle. Do you see this issue when subtitles are not being used?

Thanks, MovieFan.Plex.
I have tried several attempts but am unable to recreate the crash while the LG app is actively logging data to the server. However I do mostly watch films with subs so maybe SkebbZ and I have a similar issue. I’ll keep trying and report back.

Didn’t seem to make a difference. Tested on PC as well, it was less frequent but I still had crashes.

Still having this issue, sadly.

I’ve had the same problem for months and it annoys me that I can’t finish a movie or an episode.

Plex needs to fix this problem, it’s unbearable.

The error appears at the end of a movie or episode, certainly at 95% as indicated by the video played threshold parameter. The error displayed is that the transcoding failed, but all the files played were in direct playback, without transcoding.

If it is necessary to provide crash reports, please do not hesitate to ask me.

The latest version of Plex Media Server is installed on my NAS Synology DS918+, DSM 7.1.
I have a 2019 Samsung television with Plex for Samsung 5.67.2.

Thanks in advance to Plex employees for considering this issue.

Still crashing, now also crashes in the middle sometimes or when I try to change subtitle tracks.
