Server Version#: 1.19.3.2740
Player Version#: 8.0.0.17276 (FireOS 5.2.7.3)
In the heavy-usage times, Plex is playing back alot of videos.
And a bug, that has been a long-time company in my house hold becomes more and more penetrant.
Most of my movies are either 1080p HEVC/AC3 (MKV) or 720p/540p/480p H.264/AC3 MP4 or MKV. Plex player always direct-plays all of these formats.
Once a day, sometimes more often, during playback, Plex player app on FireTV stops playback and restarts.
I have no idea of how to debug this.
I know how to get server logs, but I am pretty sure that this is a player problem.
Can somebody from the devs please tell me how to support Plex to fix this?
The bug existed already before the latest update to player 8.0.0…
Hello @ChuckPa
no, I did not, but the next Plex player App restart is probably only a few hours ahead… so, with the next Plex player restart, I can send you logs.
Is there a way to let the Player App on FireTV have logs, too?
I thought this was a Server problem.
I can directly help with those.
I may or may not be able to help with player logs.
Knowing the specifics about what is playing (XML you get from hovering over the poster -> Get Info -> View XML - media portion at the top) is a good start.
If there’s a pattern with one type, it’ll be easier. If it’s a general fault, unless obvious in logs, I won’t be able to help.
It’s probably best one from this page which applies as “Plex Player” is very generic.
I found an article on how to grab logs from my FireTV Plex player app:
I just tested it and it only covers the last two hours of activity. So I will have to wait for the next crash/restart to grab the network logs… crash logs do not seem to be available for Android TV devices.
Since I do not want to post server logs, movie XML and player logs… Is it okay for you @ChuckPa if I PM that info to you? You could then forward that info to any dev you like
Thanks for raising this! Unfortunately, your logs have not captured the crash, the only thing I did notice in your logs is a potential DNS rebind issue, which we should have fixed in our next release anyway :).
I was also unable to reproduce this issue myself but I have managed to find a crash in our crash logging system that could have been the cause here. I can not guarantee it is this but it seems like the most likely at the moment. I am creating a new build and will share via DM for you to test if thats ok?
Thank you for your kind report.
I am using a regular FireTVv2 as playback device and I have no idea of how to side-load something. Therefore, I’d be happy to report back once your fixes can be found in the Amazon store version
My suggestion would be to expand potential logging features on these kind of devices
Yeah the only other way is to get system logs for this which is a similar mechanism to how you would sideload.
I will raise this work to go into the next release for the store and hopefully it fixes, otherwise I can spend some time with you helping to extract more system logs.
Hi @daioio and others…
Thank you for your great work… do you know what kind of FireTV Plex app version I need to look on my FireTV that should include that fix?
I still have crashes from time to time…
