There is a major bug on the Android and Fire TV Plex client apps where certain files will not play and the app just restarts. I’ve tried to play these titles hundreds of times to no avail.

I’ve tested this out with the exact same files on 2 Fire TV 4k sticks, 2 FireTV 4K Max sticks, 1 Tivo Stream 4k stick (runs Android TV), 1 Android TV OS (Sony Bravia), and also on the brand new Amazon Fire Max 11 tablet. I get the same result every time on these devices - the app crashes/restarts when playing certain files.

The same exact files WILL play on my mom’s Roku stick, a friend’s Samsung TV (Tizen client app), the Web Player, and my Android Mobile devices. This seems to indicate that there is nothing wrong with the files (which also play fine in VLC). I don’t have access to an Apple TV but willing to bet it works there too. Therefore, this is a BUG in the Android TV and Amazon Fire client apps.

I’ve attached a log from one such incident of trying to play a movie and the app simply restarts. This has been giving me problems for several months now and no one will help. How do we get support for these types of issues?

Your logs end on April 30th and do not show you running 9.25. Do you have more recent logs? Also you seem to have some sort of database issue occuring.

Can you supply a test file that causes the issue?

Edit: Also, maybe you should have debugging ON if you want Plex to look at your logs and fix bugs.

Thanks for the reply.
The app version is trivial as it’s been occurring for at minimum, 5 months now, but I edited my original post so it includes the affected versions that I have noted down. Nobody replied to my previous ask for help gathering the necessary data. I collected logs via the Network Logging, as per the instructions here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/#:~:text=Plex%20Support%20Forums-,Android%20TV%20%26%20Fire%20TV,-When%20you%20need

Also regarding your comment that I should have debugging ON:
Note : Share debugging data is not available on Android TV devices. Please use Network Logging instead.

Attached a new log showing multiple different attempts to play a handful of different movies (two of which do play and have the same container and codecs as those that crash). Please ignore errors around the ‘mini’ server - that’s not the server I’m running these files from right now. I only use that one for travelling.
