From the picture I added you can see how I like to have my libraries set up. This comes at a price however. In order to get an “All Movies” Library I need to have all of my films not only in their specific category but also have more metadata added for them as they are added to the overall movies File. This causes duplicates. Let me show you
I would very much appreciate a way to do this that doesn’t create more metadata. For example just as we can add films to a playlist I would like a way to add films to a Library so that we can click on the sidebar and immediately open up films of the genre we’ve added them too. This would be nice for TV shows as well as I have a “kids” and “all TV” library To separate for my kid’s profile.
In Brief I would like a way to add a film to a specific library that I have named and set up that can then be shared to different profiles. Thank you for your consideration.
I’m not sure I get what you’re shooting for.
Is your way of structuring your libraries aiming at providing a shortcut to the “filter by genre” functionality (so instead of having all movies in 1 library and using the genre filter, you have 1 library per genre)?
I think this desire would be best satisfied if ‘Stored Filters’ were a thing in Plex.
Because movies often can have several genres, which makes it impossible to decide into which library to put them.
And to put them into several libraries at once is a waste of storage space and processing power.
It’s more like to filter so that you can easily click the library you want and find the films you want in that library. Like if I made a library called “Monsters” and added all the films that had monsters in them, I’d like for them to be able to be put in that library as well as the “All Movies” Library and some of them in the “Horror” Library without having to do some wild magic with my file structure to make them into each library. More like simplifying the library process so that we can have an easy structure within plex that we don’t need to mimic outside of plex. Does that make sense?
I did find that one way to at least limit the metadata in the home view was to check the “Show in Dashboard” boxes off for everything except my “All Movies” library. Though this means that my other profiles that don’t have access to the All Movies Library (Such as my kid friendly one) Don’t have anything in their home screen now.
