I’m not sure if this thread is still the most relevant spot since the new UI is no longer in preview, but I thought I’d share these here. In just the few features I use, here are the issues/bugs that I’ve encountered:
Per my existing thread, Playlist and Collection views only display season-episode numbers and show poster, leaving out episode-specific metadata (this only affected Collections on the old UI, but now playlists have the same layout).
“Shuffle Playlist” shuffling matrix feels less random than it used to be (ie I’ve seen the same title appear the queue one-two titles later).
No ability to toggle shuffling when selecting a title from the playlist page and/or from the play queue (old UI had a shuffle button in the video playback controls, which is now gone in the new UI).
Two things. I know #1 has been mentioned, but I haven’t seen the details, so making a request for it to mirror the old app.
Please add back in the gestures (double tap) for navigating forward and backward. This was easily my most used playback feature and the biggest annoyance with the new playback experience. And one of the things that was so nice about it is the ability to jump forward by 10s, rather than 30s like the button. I hope this difference will be preserved when the function is added back.
Not the Android app itself, but integration between Plex Dash and the Android app is broken. When using Plex Dash, links to open an item in the Plex app are broken now. Please fix. For example (and this may be the only case?) - When viewing a moving that is being played, if you click on the 3 dot menu and select Media Details, there is a link at the bottom to “Open in Plex…”. It no longer works.
Gestures have now been added back in, but it’s as I feared - they now mirror the buttons with 10s back and 30s forward, rather than the 10s/10s that we had in the previous app.
I’ll take the good news, but hopefully an option to customize these will come in the future. I get that not everyone is going to agree on this.
UPDATE:
I’m a little slow on this one - but not only were gestures added back in - and it took me 3 weeks to notice - but skip time is customizable now. So, nothing to see here…
I couldn’t find this mentioned in this topic but I can add this:
Subtitles encoding different than UTF-8 is not supported anymore!? I have thousands which someone suggested to convert. No way. Also most sites for subtitles are serving them as ANSI. I should convert every subs to UTF-8 and tell my wife who doesn’t know w*f encoding is to do that!?
Been a good few months and I had some time today so I took a look at android mobile 2025.30.0. I was presently surprised to see some of the issues I had previous moaned about being fixed, most notability that tmdb ratings are now back alongside imdb and rt, episode listings are now vertical and a couple of other nice things.
However, there are still three deal breakers for me …
Performance, its abysmal. Honestly, I’ve no idea what level of checking, back-end phone homing its doing but its awful on performance. Its so slow. My phone is a Samsung S21, local on the same network as my plex server, all the plex online bloat is disabled, I’ve three libraries and no libraries shared with me. This just should work as fast as anything on my network as its all local. Just loading up the app takes up to 10 seconds to load the home screen, its like 15-20 on a cold start and that’s if it loads, sometimes it comes back blank or reports a problem. Going back to what I use everyday 10.28.0.3441 its instant, no lag at all. If any developers from plex sees this I urge you to take 30 minutes, revert back yourself with this legacy client on your local server and just try it. The difference is night and day …
No access to music libraries. I know its meant to be coming but its not there as of Nov 25.
The bottom bar / menu. Flogging a dead horse here but I still hate it. It’s not as bad as what you done on the TV app (roku) with that top menu but its still bad. Poor waste of space, its a fat horrible looking thing and can’t be removed. The hamburger side menu is so much better. After all we scroll vertically on a phone so this is really unwanted.
Other things I really don’t like but are not deal breakers …
I strongly dislike having common sense ratings. I have my country ratings, I don’t need a second set. This should have an option to disable either at the server or account level. I believe this is a pass feature so creating a toggle for it should be easy enough.
I don’t like the switch from episode thumbnails to show level fanart on the episode screen.
I’d love a settings to disable logos but as I have a hack to remove them myself I’ll not put it on the top list.
So, for now and I’d say for the foreseeable future I’ll remain on the legacy app.
