Current Missing Features & Bugs with the iOS App Experience Preview

Thanks for the reply! That actually helped a lot and got me to a real solution that I’m happy with. Turns out on Opnsense with Unbound DNS, one needs to specify plex.direct under Unbound DNS -> advanced -> private domains. I guess by default it doesn’t allow a url to bind to private addresses, because without that with the nslookup I wasn’t resolving to anything. Still not 100% sure why it hasn’t been an issue for the old clients, but is for the new one, but I found some old threads about it, and makes sense to me as the solution.

Also, thanks for showing how to access the published domains that plex sees. You are definitely correct that it seems to update pretty much instantly.

It’s DNS Rebinding protection and is explained in the troubleshooting steps in this PMS support article. It does exactly that, to stop a potential type of attack on your internal network. It’s been so long since I set up all of my networking for PMS that I forgot that this additional configuration of DNS was required.

It’s also helpful in allowing you to view how Plex sees your network connection as it indicates whether there is rebinding protection, NAT loopback, mapped ports, public address, etc.

A post was split to a new topic: App crashes on startup (iOS 15)

I’m getting a lot of library crashes in 2025.0 build (686) that was just released. The app with constantly bounce to the “home” tab and only display Plex Provided content. And if I go back to my Library tab, it’s showing that my libraries are empty and they display with alert marks. Force quitting the app and re-launching will fix it for a few moments, but it will quickly crash back to the home tab.

Will the iOS-app play DV8, DV5 and Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio like Infuse does?

Something I would like to see return to the new experience is the setting for libraries to remember whether we had Recommended, Browse, or Categories selected. Generally, I only go into a library if I want to see everything I have so having it default to the Recommended tab every time is a minor annoyance.

Agreed. I rarely use “Recommended”

I’m not able to hear the local theme music I’ve added for any of my media. I’ve seen this reported in the android thread, but doesn’t look like it’s been reported here yet.

I have noticed that my movie collections only show up in the collections tab and not in my movie library like before. I preferred my collections to be viewed in the library. Please bring that back.

This is something we are aware of and are planning to add during the preview period.

HI team,

Looks like movie and TV local extras are working in build 704, and the server disconnect bug when navigating libraries and collections looks to be resolve.

I am seeing now that transcodes are being force to H264 when using the HEVC Server Preview as of build 704, rather than transcoding to HEVC.

This does resolve the tonemaping issue of DV/HDR content, but it forces an SDR tone map instead of passing the DV/HDR metadata like the current client.

Any series not matched to a database, no season toggle appears when clicking into the series.

i.e: No season toggle on series that are not matched. Can only watch starting Season 00 (Features/Specials)

@dklein would you mind adding to your list of issues at the top that tmdb ratings are missing from movies, shows and episodes. I do hope plex are not silently trying to remove these …

Also, as this has become the sorta mega-thread of issues would you mind changing its title and tags include android as well as ios.

Hi @anon5074910,

There’s a separate thread for Andoid device issues and missing features at Current Missing Features & Bugs with the Android App Experience Preview - #4 by SASSBS

Fair enough - just a seams like a fair bit of duplication.

As there may be some issues that are platform dependent (ie codec and playback issues, and Apple specific features like Airplay, iOS PIP, and Spatial Audio support) I think it makes sense to keep iOS and Android separate.

SRT Subtitles are no longer consistently working in Direct Play as of Build 742 (Preview 3). Sometimes forcing a transcode by changing quality and then reverting quality to Direct Play will “kick start” SRT subtitles, but they are not always starting on their own. No issues with burn-in subs on transcode.

As of Preview 3, if a device’s network connection changes, such as Wifi to Cellular, or Cellular to Wifi, the app will freeze up and need to be force quit, even if no content is playing and the app is at one of the library pages.

If a Wifi network connection is restored, quality does not automatically switch to higher quality or Direct Play.

FLAC Stereo audio tracks are transcoding to OPUS Stereo tracks when video is transcoding, rather than direct streaming.

Local extras have also stopped working again on Preview 3.

Also, random server loss has returned in Preview 3, but it looks to be only happening now on remote connections (including both remote cellular and WiFi connections).

After some more testing, it looks like the “local extras” not displaying is only affecting the app when it is not on the same WiFi network as the server. When I’m home, local extras display normal, when remote they do not appear at all.
